Heating failures
« on: 15-05-19, 06:50AM »
Feel very sorry for customers and staff who have been forced to work/shop in very cold conditions for the past 3 weeks - having to wear heavy overcoats gloves and even woolly hats in an attempt to try and keep warm. Management not doing a lot other than indicate that to put in a new heating system would be too expensive😢😢Shameful to let staff suffer like this - especially those working long shifts with medical problems that  are aggravated by cold temps😰😰😰Anyone else had the same problems?

Matrix can override the summer or winter setting for the store if required.

Get your IST and SM on the case with the H&S rep if the store is uncomfortable to work in..

If you encounter a freezing store again next winter, just get a few people together to threaten a collective grievance under health and safety, two hours after a few people in our store did and heating was fixed, after being broken for around a month.

Thanks everyone! It looks like getting H&S involved is the best way forward if the cold temps continue.

If the temp drops too low then cold gear should be supplied the same as in a cold store.

Group grievance under Health & Safety

Stores CAN alter settings via Maxtrix  if the store is excessively too hot or cold.

Anything else your told is either they genuinely don't know, or are just giving you lip service...

I work on Trollies in our tesco extra there should be 5 of us working on the 4 carparks some of the conditions we work in put a lot of newbies off they last a week in the winter time then quit which only leaves us 3 long serving old boys to do it through the winter time rain, snow, you mention it we tackle it, you get used to it though, the summer time is the only time we have a full crew.

We had this one winter when the heating wasn't on and the store was freezing, to the point that the customers were walking out....usually it kicks in on November 1st...so before that date you get fobbed off with "waiting for a part". After constant complaints from the staff, constant fobbing off from the SM, our harassed health and safety rep served a H&S notice (section ?4? )  to the SM.

Now I'm not clear about what this section entails, but from the reaction of the SM, It's quite serious. Within 10 mins of it being served, the H&S rep was in the office and the SM's face was like thunder for the rest of the day. Heating was on next day.

No max temp, but drinks and rest periods should be offered if the heat is affecting you.
