date embedded barcodes
« on: 18-02-19, 06:55PM »
how will the customer know that a product has been reduced if there's no sticker on it

also according to a recent checkouts briefing. they're crashing self scan terminals if a deb product is voided & I mean a proper blue screen of death crash.

Debs would still need stickering, or they'd just be sat on the shelf going out of date.  Where I could see an advantage, is the checkouts picking up  'out of date'  products, thus avoiding actually selling stuff out of date.

to be honest   and what do i know,  but the whole idea just seems stupid to me.  Recipe for disaster,
The first thing i do when buying meat,  is check the date,   if there was no best before date.  I wouldn't buy it,  would you.

And you can imagine the hassle at checkouts

Stupid, stupid,  stupid..

Er, DEB's would still have reduction stickers and best before dates on them.

It would stop out of date stuff being sold through the tills and allow the system to keep a running total of all good sold with a particular best before date so allowing you to get rid of potential reductions.

'Use by' and 'Best before' dates are still printed on the packaging, and from my understanding the 'Use By' and 'Best Before' dates are stored in the Date Embed Barcode.
