Thank you to Iworktoohard for his post.

RSU
The RSU (Recycling Service Unit) were set up in 1995 by Tesco to handle all returned loose equipment and packaging from Tesco's Stores.

Loose equipment consists of:

Roll Cages

Trays

Dollies (Tesco - blue or green, and Chep - black)

GEPL Potato Shippers (now including egg shippers)

Dolly Clips

Packaging consists of:

Cardboard

Plastics (Not polystyrene)

Other returnable items include:

Mushroom Trays

Flower Pots

Confidential Waste

Chep Beverage Trays

Damaged Equipment

CAGES
All cages should be segregated by type. (silvers aka 2 siders, golds aka 4 siders.

Any damaged cages should be identified and segregated and labelled "for repair". Please put all damaged cages on vehicles returning card and trays to the RSU. Not on vehicles containing only cages which go directly back to the CDC.

The repair labels are available from Niceday RP7033.

DOLLIES/MUs
Dollies not being used for Tray returns should be stacked on dollies seven high (in total). Do not return in cages.

Segregate Tesco (blue), Tesco (green), and Chep (black/black&white) dollies.
Personal note: I've never had a driver give a damn about mixing dollies OTHER than when you mix greens in. Greens should be stacked seperatly as they do not interlock with the Tesco blue or the Chep dollies, and can easily make a stack roll over and hurt someone!
To ensure stability, make sure that the wheel's are all orientated to the same way throughout the stack.

TRAYS
All trays should be returned segregated by handle colour and returned on dollies, stacked no higher than 1.9m including the dolly. Stacks of empty trays must be secured with dolly clips.

When stores are unable to accept dollies due to adverse cambers, trays should be returned on 2 sided cages stacked no higher than the cage top. Red straps to be secured.

MIXED TRAYS
Trays should NOT be returned to the RSU mixed. If trays MUST be mixed on dollies, due only to the small amounts held within the store, then the correct tray types need to be kept together.

Please ensure that damaged cages and dollies are not used when returning trays to the RSU. Dollies should not be returned stacked inside cages.

DOLLY CLIPS
Excess dolly clips should be returned in empty trays!

Tesco spends £360,000 each year replacing dolly clips that are thrown away. Please send them back!

POTATO/EGG SHIPPERS
These should be emptied of all debris, correctly collapsed and returned stacked no more than 4 high.

CARD
Card should be flat packed using the 'coffin' method into four sided cages. This excludes corrugated card, which can be returned whole, and banana boxes. Cage doors must be locked shut. DO NOT overfill, as this places the cage doors under tension.

Ensure that cages are FULL, and that damages cages are not used for returning card!
Personal note: I am more than aware that 95% of the time you can never use the 'coffin' method on the shop floor, and dropping cardboard through the top of a locked cage is the only method for most of the day. I am sure that you can press down cardboard to make the most of space, or ask your Backdoorman to assist. I'm sure they will if it stops you using a 2 sider! I certainly would.

PLASTIC

Ensure cages are FULL.

Ensure that plastic is well presented. This means: Only plastic to be returned. NO polystyrene, food, general waste, cardboard, green Tesco trays, blue mushroom trays or any other contaminants (eg, wood/metal).

Do Not return plastic in damaged cages.

Personal note: It also mentions "Ensure that the plastic is dry!" Although i cannot see how this can be done. Most stores had there cowshed used as extra warehouse space a long time ago, and we cannot stop the heavens.

FLOWER BUCKETS & MUSHROOM TRAYS
Do not mix mushroom trays and Flower buckets in with either green trays, card or plastic returns. Please return them separately, in cages.

Flower buckets should be returned UPSIDE DOWN and drained of any water or debris.

BEVERAGE TRAYS
Small (800 x 600) beverage trays should be returned stacked on Chep dollies, 37 units high.
Large (600 x 1000) beverage trays should be returned sideways on within 2 sided cages.
Please return neatly stacked on black Chep dollies. Do not mix with green/blue Tesco trays.

CONFIDENTIAL WASTE
This covers paper waste, of a confidential nature (only). it does NOT include other paper or card waste, any other waste especially general office waste or rubbish.

This waste should be placed into plastic bags at store, these bags should then be sealed with a security seal or tie. The bags should be placed into a 4 sided cage and the door closed.

Please do NOT return - confidential waste that is loose or not in bags, open/split bags, waste bags not in a 4 sided cage.

GENERAL WASTE

THERE IS NO FACILITY AT THE RSU TO DEAL WITH STORE RUBBISH
This Includes - Fruit and Vegetables; Bakery waste, broken glass, canteen waste, office waste, and polystyrene.

Sending back the above with RSU waste increases the cost for RSU management
