When do people normally get Xmas hours. Also when we have our 2nd holiday meeting in October should Xmas Bank Holidays be arranged at this time.
Mine was done ages ago, they only need to change if you work on a sunday then you need to decide what you want to do use a holiday take it unpaid or work the hours back.
I got mine a couple of weeks ago....after asking the store manager every single shift they eventually did them.
I'm contracted to work a Sunday so I've booked it as holiday.
Haven't done mine yet. As my normal shift is Sunday night 10 to 7 can I have boxing day off? Our manager has been refusing it but then giving it to others.
pretty much if you signed up to union emails, as much as they are useless, they sent out something that helped, it's also mentioned on ourtesco that Sunay (Boxing Day) is going to be voluntary anyhow this year for tesco... (but to be fair... usually is just throw them the holiday policy / working hours policies)

(since Night staff W&P systems class the friday and saturday) and non W&P when you "pick by vote" with night members that never happens, even though they say about "moving it" and bull it's still boxing day so always just thrown the "fine i'll use personal day or unpaid" - they'd rather give you the holiday than argue with you if you keep going at it with them to be honest... shame they took out the loophole years back though of "you don't need manager consent to take your personal day in the allotted date frame"
monday 27th december is a tesco bank holiday so nobody can be forced to work that either

The 20% discount ends on the 20th of December when most people start to do there big shop!! At least with the thank you vouchers they used to run into January.
The sting in the tail this year is that the 20% still comes off annual allowence so where people have spent up will not get anything so really saying as a special thanks is a bit rich as they are not giving anything you could have got anyway
It is not very forward thinking as the staff who have used up there allowance are clearly big spenders and to use up in 7months the spend would be quite a lot going perhaps to rivals
a significant loss in trade I would say if the members of staff were spending 200 per week with about 15weeks to go to renewel

Better for me to be honest, I preferred the previous discount when it was midweek. I often don't take advantage of the 15% because I can't bear going in on a weekend.
Done all my Xmas nice bits at Lidl as Tesco screwed me over too many times on many things all my family extended family as well shop at Lidl so they have missed out on a lot of money .Even a lot of their friends won't shop at Tesco anymore because the way staff are treated.
Tesco are just the pits they don't use buying power to reduce costs for shoppers. They are now one of the lowest paid of the big 4 if not the lowest. They expect more of GAs then screw them for a few hundred bonus. Throw counters staff etc on the scrap heap in the middle of a pandemic. The shop floor managers are run ragged now and the best they can do is pass the blame to Tom, dick and Harry who work 8 hours a week. The place is full of bleach blonde mangers who's mum is a director and others who would sell their granny for a BMW and a house in Kilmarnock. Gone are the days of 16 hour days and people caring, now you've got Henry who doesn't give a rats fk and Jimmy who'll turn in if he's not got the sh**s again. I shop at Lidl now if nothing else you can get more and better quality for your money and all the staff look busy.

Yes.
They've already said that it replaces it this time, so no 15% for a few days then 20%, it's Payday + weekend + monday = 10%, Tuesday start of 00:00 = 20%

For night staff the 24 going into 25 and 25 going into 26 are going to be nights off . There is no need to request it you should have been informed. You will be working boxing night thou but shoud get BH pay after 00.00 on the monday . Talk to your line manager he should have more info . And there is no such thing as comming in early and doing a bit extra on the 24'th they tried that last year and some of the new staff fell for it
or just say since there wasn't a vote on it in early february time like supposed to since stores aren't setup on work and pay properly (only managers), that it's not voted for which day so you'll take it as a personal day :P

Hi everyone can I please just clarify that as this year Monday is a bank holiday and I work a Sunday night which is Boxing Day that I do not have to work . I have read threads and usdaw email but I must be a bit dim I didn't quite understand that bit .
We are being told we have to work boxing night as it is an ordinary night because nights Christmas is Friday and Saturday. The thing is I've been done over before on this when Christmas fell the same a few years ago .
After going in I found out later that as the Monday was a bh and on nights any bank holiday Monday is always the Sunday ( in our store that's how it works ) that I could have taken the option of taken it as holiday or unpaid etc .
I still have not had my Christmas hours meeting and I want to be prepared .

just to clarify, night workers on work and pay the bank holidays are friday sunday. saturday is voluntary for all.
please also note only hours that fall into the bank holiday are paid at bh rate ( not the full shift like it used to be )

Hi, I have been working in tesco now around 5 months on a permanent nightshift Contract. I work Saturday to Tuesday 2300-0800 hours. I requested Boxing Day and New Year's Day off as holidays having read the communication I assumed this wouldn't be a problem as per communication earlier in the year. Being told by manager that they are seeking clarification for night shift workers and I am being refused the time off. I wanted to take Boxing Day (sunday 26th as a personal day) and the 1st as a holiday. Now being told everyone has to have 3 days off at Christmas and as am only contracted to work to Wednesday morning I will be having 4 days off so not entitled on that basis either. I see knowhere in the communication that says this is the case. Can someone please clarify as I feel this is not correct and that I am being fobbed off. Thanks people.
since i can't attach due to the size restrictions, this is what was sent out that mentioned before, if your stores not allowing you to book by the hour for your holidays, your not work and pay properly set up (even if they say you are), so you've got the "february voting" they are supposed to do to pick which days are bank holidays at christmas etc, but they never do so just challenge on that..
you shouldn't be forced to take it off though? think only if they don't have enough staff / management they'd do that? ours aren't all off for an extra though, most just booked it off.

They are saying Xmas eve and Christmas days are the holidays as per the vote but Doesn't mention anything about that in the communication. Simply states if you want Sunday off u can book a holiday so I don't get what they are on about? It is clear in black and white but they say they are seeking clarification and not granting the holiday.
If you have already booked the time off earlier in the year and it was either authorised, or they didn't refuse it within the first 7 days of your request, then they have to honour it!
This should have been sorted well before now. They are messing you about...I have rarely seen the 3 day rule adhered to, always in Tesco favour, many don't get the 3 day off, especially day full timers.
With regard, not being allowed 4 days??? Why?? It should be a shift, not a day calculation. Nights are suffering a detriment, as they work across two calendar days, whereas day shift is classed as the one calendar day!
They can't penalise someone whose shift pattern enables a longer time off...My last two Christmas' working for Tesco, the days fell well with my shift pattern, and I was able to secure 10 days off for those two years, with PD BH and my off shifts!
Tell them they have by your next shift to clarify...with a full explanation in writing as to their stance!
If your store has moved to the new payroll system, work&pay, bank holidays for night staff should be fixed as the shift going into the bank holiday.
Therefore, as the designated bank holidays in Tesco this year are the 25th and 27th December, the bank holidays for night staff should be the 24th into the 25th and the 26th into the 27th.
Working on either of these bank holidays is voluntary for all staff, inline with Tesco's holiday policy.
Most are work and pay the problem. Is they don't allow you to book in hours, so the policies aren't correct with it.. 🤷♂️, that's the excuse I use and stick to 😂

Tesco's policy for the night team is, the night going into the bank holiday that is the 24th into 25th December bank holiday premium is paid on the 24 hours of the bank holiday (eg midnight to midnight. Straight forward and simple.
Now Boxing Day,
Boxing Day falls on a Sunday this year and inline with the holiday policy the designated bank holiday is moved to the Monday. Therefore Boxing Day is not a designated bank holiday.

Who said anything about confusion? I'm saying about how the policy wording is for non work and pay etc, it's supposed to be a vote and such I. February from night staff, which never happens, for this year however the union have put out a little guide, which does say "whichever night shift is not designated as the bank holiday" which makes a change from how it usually is.
Usually working into Christmas day, or boxing day is the choice nights get, but both are bank holidays that can and are given to days, and you often go through back and forth with management on it, hence my saying of "tell them there wasn't a vote" - since that picks... So there's nothing really can do about it.
I've worked nights for over 8 years and we've never had a vote. In fact I'd never heard of it until this year
oldfashionedplayer, on the old payroll system there was a designated 24hr period which replaced the actual Bank Holiday. That started at 12 noon on the day before the Bank Holiday or 12 noon on the day of the Bank Holiday. This was agreed after consultation with the management team, union reps and the night team.
The new payroll system gives the night team designated Bank holidays, the same as days.
Could you tell me where in the new work and pay payroll system does it say that there should be a vote on the Bank Holidays for the night team.
I was a union rep on nights for 15 years and find this new system a lot fairer for the night teams

Mark Calloway. They cannot refuse anyone these nights off. It's written in plain English in the people policy and recent union communication. The same rules apply to all stores. I'd begin grievance proceedings and get the union involved.

There is no limit. It's a bank holiday and is purely voluntary. It even specifies in the people policy that no colleagues have to work Christmas day, boxing day or new year's Day bank holidays.
It's not so black and white as you think on here. Bank holidays can be refused if short staffed for that day.
However different rules for Xmas time etc.

Working on all the designated Bank Holidays over Christmas and New year is voluntary for all staff (whether day or night staff) in all Tesco stores.
Management cannot refuse you the time off.

Previous to the introduction of the holiday hours system on fixed hours contract bank holidays eg Easter etc were not put on holidays request form and taken as not available to work is this still the case or have they now to be put on the holiday request form as well
It is in the policy about 4 weeks notice. So you can't just get to the 21st of december and declare you are taking the 26th off.
If management have kept the night teams in the dark regarding the correct Bank Holidays, telling staff the that they were the 24th and 25th December, then the 4 week rule cannot apply if they were only found to be misinforming staff in December.

Ideally 4 weeks notice, but since its voluntary you can take it, so grinch managers can't take more Christmas from us. Nothing thry can do for Christmas ones.

I've had 2 holiday meetings in all my years, once when I started and once a year after.... Always excuse of "not enough time" or "not enough managers in", so always go my own way with how I do them.

A few of our stock controllers take xmas week off as there is nothing for them to do!,they have been doing this for years to avoid having to fill shelves for a week
Really ??? There'd be a mutiny in my old store, if one department were allowed to take holiday Christmas week, because they didn't want to fill shelves :-X There are still some small routines that SC should be completing during the week.
They should be allocated one of the busier departments to support, usually produce, fresh, morning goods, bakery or seasonal aisles.
Dot.com used to get flack just for getting Christmas Eve off :o

Few years ago my shift was on new years eve, store closed at 6pm, my shift was still the normal until 10pm, most colleagues were there until midnight, but 8pm the manager on duty decided we could all go home, don't bother to clock out he will set us all manually so we still get paid. lol
But unless things have changed in couple years I suspect it will be normal hours.
I start at 10pm lol!!

New years is book off, it's a Bank Holiday though thing so if your nights still can book it off with the union's guide, stores may be closed after a time but they'll still be restocked so night shift will still go ahead for those thst want to work it or new years eve to be honest.

Well as stated there's policies posted here and I and others have listed the information to pass on, so they could always complain with it but they should always look into stuff... GA's should share the info against management, stand together to be honest against the company on the bull like that.
Head office are well aware of these issues.
A few years ago 20+ drivers all filed pay queries and grievances when the bank holiday wasn't paid its premium.
