I am well over 50 and have no problem with using self-scan and the other modern technologies which were actually originally devised by people of my generation and earlier.  It is the younger generations who would struggle with the likes of building their own cat's whisker radio these days.

Quote from: londoner83 on 23-09-22, 08:13AMIt's more about demographics.

The majority of people under 50 have no issue serving themselves, whereas the majority aged 50+ prefer a manned till.

For Tesco manning tills is one of the largest payroll costs, so it makes economic sense to introduce more self service tills.

The gamble is, is now the time to alienate our older shoppers with a change our younger shoppers will welcome.

I don't agree. I am over 60 and I hardly ever use a main bank and I have had colleagues say this to me so I have made a point to watch. There are some older people who don't want to not use a main bank but I think it's not an age thing. We are still getting a lot of retired people shop very early and very late at night and they have no problem with self service.
Also, colleagues tell me older customers don't fill out the viewpoint due to it being online but the figures on the report say that over 60% are over 65 years of age.

Has anyone heard whats happening to community champions?,do they need to do the scan, pick, fill training?,it was rumoured a while ago the roll is being axed and made regional, not sure if this is still happening or not?

Morris999

No idea if the role is being axed or not, however they do need to complete the serve, pick and fill training!

Only colleagues that do not need to complete it are the following
pharmacy Technicians
Phone Shop colleagues and
DotCom Drivers!

From what I remember every other department/colleague needs to complete it.

lucgeo

Ha! That'll wipe the smug look from some of the champions faces...they wander around thinking they're a cut above, remonstrating with colleagues if they don't participate with their latest fun, dress up as an idiot, ideas.

They take all the credit and are in every 'photo having fun days out in the community, stuffing their faces with stock that's been donated by the store!

Ours said this morning she is "exempt" from the new contract, as her hours are paid by head office, not the store and she won't be doing any scan, pick, fill training or be on the system when it goes live.

Yes, some are funded, others are not.

Bar the Pharmacy wouldn't be at all surprised the areas of the store that don't have to do Serve, Pick & Fill at this time will be "forced" into it eventually.

What do bakers do if they get called to tills and have something in the oven?

lucgeo

Stay in your department and complete the bake! No argument!

Every colleague is paid by head office via the store including so called community champions.
They are not exempt no matter what they say.

As you'll be in your whites you will not be able to attend the checkout calls. It's that's simple.
