I heard from manager that Tesco will be removing premium from night shift for new staff is this true? I think they want to remove the old staff on nights by threatening the remaining night staff and giving the remaining redundancy or hours in the evening or morning while after a few years they bring new staff to do nights on lower wages no premiums.

Is this happening in you store?  this is already happening in my store already where staff in the nights shift are being put under more pressure threatened and more then 15 people leaving and nor being replaced. My store became an express from metro I don't know if they are doing this so staff leave.

Any nightshift jobs being advertised at the mo?

BritishRacingGreen

437 according to careers site - just put in 'nights' in the search box and they all come up.

In my store they aren't advertising any nights in fact but is even more shocking because more than half the staff left around 20 people.  Not 1 been replaced.

Premium payments are additional elements paid to you on top of your basic pay for working on Sundays, during the night, and on bank holidays. This will have been confirmed to you in your offer of employment and is paid per hour for shifts worked at premium times. Where a colleague in stores works Sunday night you would be paid both Sunday and the night premium.

How is my pay made up?

Our non-management colleagues in stores and customer fulfilment centres are paid hourly: this includes some or all of the following elements:

Basic Pay
Premiums
Market Supplement
Location Pay
Skills Payment (where applicable)
First Aid Pay
Pay Protection
Option placement pay
Deputising Pay

I work on nightshift in a store in n ireland and we are a dotcom store. I have read that new staff that do nightshift arent getting nightshift premiums or bh or sun premiums either. In our store staff are dropping like flies and arent being replaced and we are expected to get more work done and expected to get finished aswell. I dont knkw about other stores but in our store days dont pack out at all so we are coming in and shelves are empty and our overstock is the same as we left it and we could be coming into e.g yogurts having 13+ overstock cages every night and we are expected to do that and whatever delivery we have aswell. We are at the end of our tether and have heard whispers of our nightshift being cut most of us if not all of us are hoping to get redundancy i for example have 20 years service so id more than happily take mine as would others who have been there as long as me if not more. Suppose to be hearing more about this in oct and our fingers are crossed it does!

Personally i think tesco is a s*** hole and the big wigs couldnt care less about us.

Talking to HGV drivers and they get bonuses left right and centre, they are on a higher wage and they get £10 on top of every shift theu do plus them and distribution staff have a far better union than store staff!

Where have you read this info from. Please let us know. I think it might have been at the bottom of a beer glass. Please read our tesco on night premiums.

The same is in my store cages left undone the fridge always full never empty it never was like this before. We had over 20 staff leave from nights not 1 being replaced and hyst recently another night staff leaving.  I dont break my back for Tesco and do whatever I can do and leave the rest. I dont bother arguing anymore. I also believe theh will cut hours or expect staff to be flexible which I am not and will not accept. I will take the redundancy and not look back and never come to tesco especially at the state it is in.

So become an HGV driver then? Don't try to make out that shop floor and HGV driving should be the same pay level.

Bobmay, I understand that a company wants to cut premiums. But if you have a nightshift fill then there will be a premium to get staff. If you offer no premium for working nights you wouldn't get anyone applying. If you have "heard from a mgr" keep it to yourself unless you actually know something that is concrete, otherwise, your just talking garbage.

Taken from current policy as seen online today.

Basic Pay:

Basic pay for our hourly paid colleagues in stores is based on the B/C grade pay rate.

Premiums:

Premium payments are additional elements paid to you on top of your basic pay for working on Sundays, during the night, and on bank holidays. This will have been confirmed to you in your offer of employment and is paid per hour for shifts worked at premium times. Where a colleague in stores works Sunday night you would be paid both Sunday and the night premium.

Actually people who are desperate for jobs wouldn't mind to work nights without night premium. There is plently of companies that do that already.

Bobmay , Can you name me 12 big British companies that do not pay night premiums.  Feel free to "hear it from a mgr" for help.

NightAndDay

There's currently a labour shortage of epic proportions which is in part contributing to the record levels of inflation we're currently seeing. Only illegals would work overnight for less than minimum wage, we're currently very much in an employees market where they can pick and choose who to work for. Stores have had to cease their night operation because of lack of candidates applying for the role and that was with a premium of £2.21 extra an hour which is better than some of the competitors, it wouldn't be a good strategic decision to scrap night premiums because of this and therefore is very much the case that night premium is still paid (I asked my flatmate the Store Manager and he confirms it is only sunday premium that new starters don't get).

Tesco sucks

Lidls ask a lot for that bit of extra pay. The retention problem they have says it all.
