Does anyone understand what is now happening with this , there are changes coming to make the booking of CS stock simplier it looks more complicated to me, firstly use by stock will no longer be offered only best before dates 24 hours after the expiry the pda will automatically print the lable with CS if it falls into this catagory.
so anything with useby if not sold would be disposed of now?

One of our senior team said it is to help the food banks more and it's a case of another little perk for staff being phased out.  We used to get all the half dead plants free, but now the ladies that work on produce have been told to stop putting them in the canteen, though how this affects food banks is a mystery to me.

Want to fix this entire nonsense of reductions.  75% off the night before it goes out of date regardless of quantity and thats it for the whole of the next day until wasted.

Who wants to buy 4 day old lettuce for 85p vs 89p at a first review...

When is this new thing coming into effect? Will have to take advantage of more CS stuff before its gone.

Yep if the reduction was higher when we first scan it in, it'd mean a lot less reaching final reduction.  Everything should be stickered when we first see it, even if it is annoying.

whatajoke2019

Ours kicked in last week.

Does seem to be a lot less to add to the CS; in all fairness ours is usually salad bags that are browner than someone's back garden in the middle of a heatwave so no one tends to take them, regardless.

NorthernJ

99% of ours is posted to charity at 8.30 so its only if Job 14 miss stuff do staff actually even get a chance.

biggerpicture

Wasn't even aware it was changing. Not seen or been told anything about it

Used to be better years ago when it was left to experienced staff to do the old job 14 and you could use a bit of discretion if the potentials report suggested taking a couple of pence of something you had loads going ooc and you knew it would never sell.
Do not let anyone tell you there is not a decent job and life beyond Tesco.

Hi, anyone know the policy on chilled items dumped in shop floor freezers?? Can this be c/s from warehouse freezer/chiller?? Thanks

Tesc0Wow

Considering colleague shop should only be for products at the end of their shelf life that's a no, they should be wasted. You can be assured they are safe to eat.

Thanks for reply, haven't found the right bit to start a new topic yet ☹️. See the word "should" . Haven't found anything to confirm it can't be stickered and sold either still frozen or put back in staff chiller wit note not to freeze and reduced.

New Topic? see supporter benefits.

Redshoes

It will come under cold chain. If something chilled or frozen is known or suspected to have been out longer than 20 mins it can't be resold.

Hi, chilled item was dumped into customer freezer.Pizzas/sausages etc for example. What's actual rules??

Supposed to be wasted, more often than not (ours included), they just defrost it in chiller, reduce and put back out..

Typically, you have to slash items to waste them or do like we used to do years back, draw on them  8-)  .

They just wanna minimize their waste budget... Time and time again we have dollies of meat just left for 6 to 7 hours from 2/3pm until night mixed in with ambient, we hand it over as waste in mornings, its on the shelf within a few hours..  >:(

lucgeo

They should all be wasted as said!! If your store is selling to staff, then they're on very thin ice with H&S!

Though I can clearly understand the thinking from the management. They can't send it to food banks, but with the amount of real hardship being suffered by many colleagues, it's sacrilegious to waste food that could be used for a meal that day!! Pity any person who decides to report it!! The staff are taking it, knowing the reason not to re freeze

We used to send up to staff canteen, when they were still Tesco owned, to see if they could be used for the lunches? Same with any cracked eggs, they would be wasted then sent up. There was often a couple of cakes going in afternoon breaks with used up eggs and ripped sugar/flour bags off the shop floor!!

Someone should tell our management team. We've had frozen out for an hour and sandwiches out for 4 hours once.

person7

4 hours?

thats actually illegal against food safety and against tesco policies. food safety is max 90 minutes and tesco policy makes it 20 minutes.

LOT of food gets wasted at ours - 99% of collegues finish 9pm or 10pm - but the food gets wasted 8pm-8:30pm so we never get to use the colleague shop since. - as ironically they all finish by 9pm so they have to waste it all before they finish the shift or its there when we open in morning

lordadmiral

What's the problem. In my old store people keep frozen bakery on the shop floor for something like 6 hours before it go back to the freezer.
No manager said a word, ever.
