Where you heard this?

BUY TESLA STOCK

That would give it away. The rumour is Ocado style warehouse for dotcom will be the new norm and there will be no need for the dotcom in stores. This is too labour intensive. By the end of January you will hear in the news Tesla have signed a contract with Tesco to provided trucks some which will have self driving capability.  With costs for drivers on the rise and staff sickness there is going to be a push to robots. I think everyone knows by now profit over people's jobs is Tesco priority.

fatlad

So what you mean is you haven't heard anything. Shouldn't post things like that on here unless you have evidence to back it up which you are willing to share

Embargoed at the moment not even your store manager will know. By end of January the world will know if not leaked just now.  :)

I would like to see a robot delivering the last 20 yards over rough, broken ground or between tightly parked cars.

It may not be this year or even the next but driverless deliveries will surely be coming at some point over the next decade.

The savings to the business in terms of sick pay, holiday pay, pension contributions etc will be huge - so as soon as the technology can work driving jobs will become part of history.

So you're delivering to a disabled customer who lives in a house down a track with 2 gates to open to get to the property. You the have 3 steps up to the door & the customer wants the shopping taking to the kitchen......Good luck driverless delivery!!!

Morris999

Driverless cars/vans are not legal in the UK so it's not going to happen anytime soon.
What is going to be legal this year is level 3 self-driving cars.
Effectively the vehicle will need a driver in the drivers seat but will be able to take hands off the wheel and not pay attention.
However the vehicle must be able to give the driver 10 seconds warning to take back control or the vehicle will automatically stop or something along those lines.
Think we can all see the pitfalls around this already but it's the first step in a very long process to get to driverless vehicles.

So in effect dot com drivers have nothing to worry about about being replaced anytime soon with driverless vehicles.

What might happen this year or next is drone delivery's on very small shops in a few major cities but that's it.

It's the same with checkouts no doubt in the future they will all be self serve BUT at this moment in time there are still a lot of customers out there who prefer manned tills ( sorry person tills).

Disabled customers...track road...2 gates...2000000 kitchens not an issue. I don't know how I just know it's happening and know the company who will make most the changes. Chill for now.

Nomad it is about Sainsbury, tesco, Pepsi and many others. Invest your subscription money wisely.  I don't charge my readers. Surprised you are not raising the current £2 for members to meet inflation.  ;D

[admin]You may not charge your readers, however you should pay compensation to your readers ;D ;D , even you must have noticed any 'facts' about Tesla and Tesco should be in the main forum. All donations (no subscriptions) are ring fenced for the upkeep of VLH. End of discussion.[/admin]

"end of January" not 'end of a January'.
