Escalators

Hi all, just thought I'd come on here for a moan. My Extra has very recently had automatic sensors installed into the escalator, every single time somebody gets to the bottom an automatic warning plays saying 'approaching landing level, please take care'.

It's loud, can be heard across the whole bloody store and if there's 3 people stood behind each other, it will play 3 times in a row back to back. Honestly, who's idea is stupid things like this that just p*** staff and customers off. Who wants to hear that hundreds of times per shift? Yesterday during busy periods it's was playing probably every 10 seconds. People aren't stupid, they don't need to be audibly told they're at the bottom. Just stick some hazard tape on and be done with it. I might make some warning signs and stick them on the windows and doors just so customers don't get confused and try and walk through them.  ???

Has anyone else's store had this installed? Who do I complain to? It's winding staff and customers up who have to hear it every 5 seconds.

We've had it fur about 2 years, "please prepare to push the trolley off the end off the travelator" for the down, from first level of store, and then up to clothing on 2nd level is "approaching landing level, please take care" "approaching landing level please take care" "approaching landing level please take care" you will hear it now and forever in your head and it will drive you nuts, good luck 😩

Could it be for those who have restricted or no vision ?

That Nomad, and the fact there was a serious incident in a Tesco store and a few minor ones not long after they were first installed.
The voice was installed very quickly afterwards, along with the emergency stop buttons being relocated.

Yes it might be annoying to colleagues who are working all day, but better that than a nice big law suit against Tesco.
Sorry your honour, the voice was removed because it annoyed afew colleagues.

You can complain all you want, the voice will not be removed.
you also say people aren't stupid, yet the law suits and warnings on products say differently.
I remember there at one time being warnings on peanuts, that they contain nuts!
Don't know if it's still there or not.

We have "Please prepare to push the trolley off the end of the conveyer" on both the up & down... the funny part being that the accidents almost never involve a trolley.

just curious

Regarding serious incidents on elevators - A Tosco store in South Yorkshire this morning had the upwards elevator out of order with barriers across it so you had to use the stairs or lift to go upstairs when the store opened at six am , the downward elevator was working fine . What did the Duty manager do ? The duty manager switched directions on the downwards elevator to make it go upwards and any customers in store not watching what they were doing would have automatically gone onto the elevator not realizing its direction had been changed and could have potentially tripped or fell due to direction being changed after the store had already opened - not every one is fully awake and functioning at six am to realize that the direction had been altered . The elevators have been going the same direction for a number of years without change in direction and people go into Auto pilot when leaving the store then today five minutes into trading a catastrophe could have potentially happened ? .
