In many former metro stores turned express they still have multiple managers like when they did when it was metro. How long until they remove these managers and structure them into how Express stores run where they only have 1 manager. Also with the new contract serve pick fill whats the point of it if it won't effect nights staff? I think it is because Tesco don't want to pay redundancy or protected pay so can move staff around.

Night staff generally work 10pm till 7am. As stores open generally till midnight and then from 6am.....there is still opportunities to move night replenishment colleagues onto serve roles during the hours the store is trading

It wouldn't be a reasonable change to do that and wouldn't legally hold water as a way to avoid offering redundancy.

@bobmay sounds like your store wont be much of a saving getting rid of nights with so few staff/managers, you'll be at the back of the queue,  lol

They don't even have enough people on nights so how would they be able to serve if they aren't able to finish their job of filling shelves?

It can hold water for those working in the morning because they aren't contracted for departments anymore so if tesco for example cuts the house on checkouts they can work on filling shelves this was the reason fheh brought the new contract. Also for managers what  is the reason for many of them in express store when other Express have only 1 manager and the store doesnt make much money as it used to.not even half of what it made by massively less money.

They have to many staff in the morning and evening and far to many shift leaders.  On nights they have no one who was replaced plus the delivery was reduced.  They are in fact already filling shelves during morning and evening even now when delivery hasn't been done they are filling them during morning and evenings. The store I work at they used to make 2 to 3 million a month now they make 500k a month.  They have also been hiring far to many people on morning and evening however they haven't replaced anyone on nights not even 1 person.  Over 17 people left nights. There is only 11 people left on nights including 2 shift leaders and 1 night manager.

Some managers were moved into soft structure. This means that if they leave they will not be replaced but they can stay in role until the situation changes. During this time they should consider applying for and moving into other roles within the croup at they come up. It's expected that they are proactive in doing so. Roles that have come up but they have turned down could be seen in a negative way, in the long run but not in the short.
My store is at structure but we have others in the group that are way over. I do a half hour drive to work as do others in my store but we also ave the live local. The live local tend to get key holder due to location up I prefer to travel to work. It keeps work and home life separate and if I need to shop on my day off I can pop into a shop that as the years go by I know far less people and it makes that quick trip to the shop better.
I know nothing about what is coming but I can feel something is on it's way. I can only suggest that the stores that are at structure and are close to allowed hours have less to worry about.

From the perspective of transferring established night workers to a shift during the day, it's not considered a reasonable change, that factor alone would need to be met with the option for redundancy.

Something will come it will be large jobs cuts in areas tesco feels they need to save money on. Which if you ask me will be small tesco losing nights and the remaining managers they have. In my store for past 8 years they have been wating to remove nights when it was an metro now it is more quiet express they will remove it soon.

In my store the manager was asking do many people on nights to come work in the morning or evening even the night manager they asked him to change his hours from nights to morning and evening. So I think in the store I work at they decided that nights will be gone. There is no more than 20 small tesco Express that still have night shift. And considering the location of store rent us expensive and they make far less money from 3 million to 500k a month they will cut night eventually

NightAndDay

They can ask, but legally if they refuse and they get rid of nights, redundancy or another night shift role within their established capabilities and reasonable distance would have to be offered, if this was challenged, the ultimate conclusion would be a judge ruling in favour of the night shift worker as going from nights to days wouldn't be a reasonable change.
