These are the Tesco policies to support you:

Holiday
All staff are entitled to paid holiday (which increases with your length of service) regardless of whether you are temporary or permanent. The holiday year runs from 1st April to 31st March.

Extended holiday
In addition to your normal holiday entitlement, once you have a year's service you may request up to 4 weeks additional unpaid holiday once every 3 years.

Emergency leave
You can take a short period of unpaid emergency leave to help someone who is dependent on you, for example if they fall ill and you need to arrange for their care.

Shift swap (stores only)
You may arrange to swap shifts with another member of the team if you need time off, for example to go to your child's sports day or for a religious festival.

Career break
If you have 2 years' service you can apply for a career break of 3 months to 5 years - perhaps to focus on bringing up your family, further education or travel abroad.

Bereavement leave
Paid leave will be granted in the sad event of the loss of a close family member.

Compassionate Leave
You can ask for unpaid leave, normally a maximum of 3 months, for other compassionate reasons such as caring for a sick relative.

Maternity leave
Your Personnel or HR Manager can advise you of your benefits as soon as you become pregnant, including time off for ante-natal care, maternity leave before and after the birth, and whether you are entitled to maternity pay. See the "Your Guide to Maternity Booklet" attached below.

Paternity leave
New Dads are now able to take 2 weeks leave following the birth of their baby to support their family at this important time - see the FAQs below for more information.

Adoption leave
For adoptions after 6 April 2003, you may be entitled to 6 weeks at full pay followed by 20 weeks at Statutory Adoption Pay, followed by 26 weeks unpaid leave. Either parent may take this leave. For more information please talk to your Personnel or HR Manager.

Parental leave
Eligible parents may apply for up to 4 weeks unpaid leave per year to care for their child (usually if the child is under the age of five, or eighteen if the child is disabled).
