Title: Moneygram and everything gone
Post by: beahead on 15-07-23, 09:05AM
So a lot of stores are loosing moneygram service, how has this affected the hours for your customer service desk? Wondering why the service had gone?
We are a very busy store, we are near many warehouses that employ a lot of Eastern Europeans that use this service. It seems that every  service we offered has gone. No glass hire, no banking, no customer orders, no accompanied shops. In fact every thing that made us stand out from competitors has gone. At one time customers could come as a one stop shop destination,  you could purchase everything, sat navs, fridges, tvs. Customers  may as well use budget supermarkets now, as we have nothing better to offer.

Presumably complaints will have increased due to the lack of services you now provide.
That should keep you busy calling for a DM every five minutes ... 😉

A lot of services that used to be on offer dwindled mainly because of staff streamlining of hours and depts. Some of the services were just no longer feasible.
Glass hire, flower wrapping, customer banking, photo processing, customer orders etc...all fell to the CSD when they had several colleagues on the desk at one time.

Checkouts covered assisted shops and had designated bag packers, who wore burgundy waistcoats to pack customers shopping at busy times.

Stock control err...controlled the stock. Ordered extra in for customer requests or trends to the specific store shopping habits and discontinued stock that wasn't shifting. They controlled all the ordering and invoices, highlighting any discrepancies.

The majority of colleagues were employed on full time contracts, and the canteen cooked 3 course lunches from scratch by a team of colleagues.

Nowadays, in most retail and business environments, staff come in, go on dept for a short shift, maybe some get a break to sit in an empty canteen on their 'phones, others don't get a break...is it any wonder that mental health is an issue with most not interacting with anyone from one day to the next!

Reminds me 'progress' is far from always being a good thing.  :(  :'(
