I've used freetime for "Deals" with the old clubcard vouchers, have been to Drusillas Zoo Park, Lego Land and London Zoo, and made massive savings on the entry to these places everytime ie. Lego Land = 2 Adults, 2 Children and a Baby entry price =£86.00 , Clubcard vouchers sent to freetime £21.50 = entry for the above. Saving 75%.

I've used Freetime regularly (for the vast number of holidays I have each year, being a grossly overpaid manager!!), & they're great. Always got cheaper than whatever I found on the internet & the staff are really helpful. Can't recommend it enough.

I don't use the table Always at work at the mo as in middle of refit 200 hours short on depts and got a whole 20 hours overtine to 'help' cover which just about covers the time i spend on checkout doing relief calls.

If u get an email quote from Tesco Travel Agent then take in to Going Places, they will beat it- so you get to buy your hol off a real person AND pay less. But they don't do all the tour ops and all the brochures from the tour ops they do..
when i booked my holiday i phoned all the travel agents up and told them what the price was and none of them could beat it
I saved my vouchers and got 2 annual passes for Tussauds, a collegue then sent of for 2 more for me and i paid her the £40 which gave us 4 annual passes. We then went on a four week holiday to the south of England using the passes and saved a lot of money and the kids enjoyed the theme parks. We even went back in the oct hols and plan again for easter and the summer before the passes run out. Alton Towers alone would have cost £80 for one day, we go for two days at a time so got our money back no problem. The other good vouchers are the days out ones the kids loved the open topped bus around London and it only cost me £2!!!

Saved my vouchers for MFI deal tokens, bought a new sofa (my first EVER brand new bit of furniture, which is probably why I am SOOOO excited about it) and it only cost me £9.

I rang Tesco freetime to get a price for a holiday. It was dearer :( I asked "how can that be with the promised 10%?" Reply "Because we can only give 10% off the brochure price, not off the travel company's internet price, we can't better that".
So that means Tesco are not giving employee's ANY benefit. The 10% discount is not actually an employee discount. Go to any travel agent with a brochure price and they will better it. So Tesco Freetime is just the same as any other travel agent, don't let them fool you into believing its a "staff benefit" when booking a holiday from any of the operators they list. They are not giving you anything that you could not get yourself, by booking direct online. In fact, as I found, I could actually get it cheaper that way. :(

Using your vouchers, etc is more useful with thee clubcard token scheme. We have been to Paris on the Eurostar 6 times this year and all thanks to us shopping at tEsco and saving the vouchers.

You have to remember the free shares are free. So you can cash them in after three years and you get cheque for about 2/3rds and the rest on wages with tax. What you loose is marginal as they were free in the first place. I think really we should just want for a payrise on the hourly rate instead of the free shares, as you can loose part of these if you leave early in the finacial year, and with the extra money you/we would benefit more and more often ;)

As i work at Chepstow DC we dont get anything as we are so bad not accepting there T & Cs. So as we dont get discount we dont shop at Tesco. Would rather give Morrisons and Asda our money, Somehow dont see Tesco logic.Every little helps.
Hi Welsh-Hugh @ Doncaster We have managed to aquire all the tesco benefits without losing our old T & C'S. Our Stewards put a grievance againts the company, because it says in the tesco handbook you will recieve all benefits after one years service regardless of what your T & C'S are.
On the T*sco benefits website it is currently showing a special offer on motor insurance that if you quote a special code you will get £50 cash back on your car insurance .
Well I quoted the code and the car insurance lady said "Nope, no such offer" then when I said "It's on the T*sco staff website". "I don't work for them so I can't check it" :'(
So I'm back at work tomorrow with a print out of the offer, does anyone on here work for TPF or staff benefits?

hi im wondering if anyone can help. I have some shares i would like to sell, they are the free ones we get. I have some that are free of tax and n.i on 14 may but also want to sell some that i'll have to pay tax on, what i want to know is if i instruct to sell say on the 15 may 09 roughly how long b4 i see the money, its just im selling them to pay for a holiday that needs payed by 10 june so need to have money by then.

You can set it up so that they will pay direct into your bank account. They now trade more often, pretty sure that you will get your money within the week, certainly well before your June deadline date.

Or go outside the sector! It is my belief that retail, or supermarket retail, is going to get tougher for staff of all strata. If I were starting a career today it wouldn't be in the retail sector. Pay and conditions have been eroded in the last 5 or 6 years and the benefits have strings attached. I don't see things getting any easier in the near future, as supermarkets strive to cut expenses. (Staff are considered an expense now, as opposed to the past when they were an asset to the business.)
I don't know how often you all look at the benefits site but there's an offer of 25% off Identity Direct for Tesco staff, valid until 31 December.
If you don't know the company they supply personalised gifts, especially good for children. I can personally recommend the My Adventure Books for children just learning to read. By having the story based around the child, including their friends names, birthday, etc, it encourages a love of BOOK reading. :d:

look around on the net and you WILL get cheaper rates elsewhere for hotels/flights/day trips/whatever, I have always checked with the tesco website before booking holidays over the past 5 years and the tesco offers suck. I believe they must be getting backhanders somehow. Noticed some people mentioned other benefits, believe you me, the only benefit worth having with tesco is the pension scheme, they could stuff all the other benefits and you wouldnt really notice,
It's not just about price though. It's also about the service you get when things go wrong, especially with insurance. I've only had one Tesco insurance and can only speak from my own personal experience and it wasn't good.
I recently tried again with a holiday. The lady I spoke to admitted that they cannot better online holiday prices. It works out exactly the same in most cases, it just depends whether you want them to handle the booking or if you're confident to handle the booking online yourself. The only benefit in the Tesco holidays is the booking service.
Tesco as an estate agent are also coming back soon. I had my house for sale with them last time but took it off the market in the end. They had a great staff deal £49 if I remember rightly and that was all you paid. You take your own photos and upload them onto the website along with all the relevant info. I did in fact take better photos than the estate agent that we had had previously, which wasn't too difficult. They supply a board as well. If we had sold we would have saved thousands on the high street estate agents price. If we decide to re market the property I would definitely go back with them. Why pay estate agent fees - and for what? Half the time the agent never showed up with the viewers or the viewers were totally inappropriate. Think I should be on commission ;)

There was a poster in our store advertising a cruise departing on December 10th for 2 weeks, wonderful except no-one is allowed holidays in december, when this was pointed out the poster dissappeared like magic.
You should have requested those two weeks and see if they were refused. If they were then it would have been interesting to just point out the advert for the cruise and see what happened. :)

OK, You're right the staff discount is exactly the same as the online discount ...15%, so if you've had a quote on the website, thats the cheapest price. The interest free instalments for staff is no longer available for new customers (but older customers who had this will still get it at renewal)
We used to do 12 flat monthly payments for staff but this has also been stopped, it's a deposit and 10 instalments on the first year.
We do price match for staff BUT this has to be customer led, so if you simply ask 'Is that the cheapest?' we have to say yes and that's it BUT if you say you heard we price match etc....and mention the offer then we can match another quote.

I was informed on break last night that they are available at the end of the year and if not claimed are voided and not paid, so i gather i lost out last year? I was also told there is a number i can text to find out if i have any shares waitin for me? My managers are useless in doin anything that benefits anyone other than themselves so i'm lookin to find out what i can without havin to involve them
If anyone has any detailes on how i'd go about finding out, claiming, cashin in etc i would v much like to know! I googled it a bit and found nothing, facebooked the tesco sites, found nothing, so i'm hoping u knowledgeable people could help me out on this one!! Once registered your shares are allocated to you each May. You cannot sell them for three years. Between 3 and 5 years you pay Tax on them. After 5 years they are yours without deduction.
You can find details of any shares already allocated in your Benefits Report. This also gives your Share Account number with Equiniti who hold the shares for you. Their telephone number is 0871 384 2976.
Staff Privilege card holders no longer get their vouchers before Clubcard holders. :(
I'd noticed that they seemed a bit later than normal this time but thought it was just me! It doesn't make much difference to me personally though, they get used whenever turn up so as long as they actually arrive I'm happy.
i think it does matter when they turn up as you get less time to use more specific dated coupons-also we work hard so why shouldnt we be rewarded with getting vouchers first-gets on my nerves when customers bringing all their vouchers in and we havent even got ours yet-anyone know why it changed? (?)) 8)

I phoned Tesco Direct, and the operator on the phone said that they hadn't received theirs either, so was wondering if anybody here knows the code to enter?

all the "money off" vouchers i received with my payslip went straight in the bin cos as per usual nothing of any interest to me. i for one begrudge giving my hard earned wages back to tesco.

Yes, they removed the 12 months interest free, as the overall offer is much better for everyone and only the people who took interest free payments benefited!
They haven't closed call centres, they used to be ran by RBS, they're now 100% tesco staff in them and in fact, Tesco created 1500 jobs opening them. the staff are great on the phone, as I took my car insurance out with them and the prices are really really cheap! try them and I bet they beat your current insurer hands down.
I work for Tesco Bank, so it upsets me when people post rubbish like this. The offers we're putting on for staff are actually really really good, with more products coming in the next year!!

Cheap is not always best (in fact it rarely is).
Rubbish is replacing a stolen set of car keys & leaving the owner to pay for them to be programed, and someone out there has a set of keys to the car. Should have had a new set of locks.

Say premium is £200.
-10% online in first year = £20
£180 x 15% clubcard discount = £27
£153 x 10% staff discount = £15.30
£137.70 to pay
In this example you'd be getting 31.15%
Renewing in following years only gives you the 10% staff discount so if the premium stayed the same in year 2 you'd pay £180.
So no, you don't get 35% discount.

As Nomad has said, cheap is not always best. I have had terrible experiences with Tesco car insurance where they were absolutely no help at all, I'll never insure with them again - not because of cost but because of the awful service.

be careful when looking at these wonderful figures, it may be a good deal for your first year but after that you will be ripped off by buying Tesco car insurance.
ALWAYS check out the car insurance comparison sites ie gocompare/moneysupermarket/comparethemarket.
I have just realised this as my car insurance was due last month with Tesco, they quoted me fully comp with all the extras and full RAC coverage under their finest/premier insurance for £380. That was with 8 years no claim entitlement as well.
Gocompare got me with Marks & Spencers (yes M&S) only difference was an extra £50 excess, total charge £251.32
a saving of £128.68.

Tesco are c**p for renewl quotes. My first year quote was very good, then renewl quote was up 16% from £1,152 to over £1,300 a year!
Rang up, and asked how that could be, my wife and I had both turned 26 this year, my wife who was the named driver had 4yrs no claims, and myslf 2yrs, so how could they justify this rise, if anything we should be cheaper.
Demanded to speak to someone higher, and eventually I beat them down, it gone down by £12 a year. Absolutley rediculous
I think Tesco and other insurers hope to rely on people just paying the renewal price without question and so inflate it accordingly. I suspect there are people out there who will pay it because they got a good deal the first time and assume that it's a good price or simply because they can't be bothered with getting quotes even though that takes half an hour maximum these days.
Other Tesco insurance products are the same, good deal the first year and then expensive renewal prices.

I would give you the minimum premium if I knew it, but I don't work in pricing.
As for other providers giving you a better quote, yeah, they often will, as ALL Car Insurance companies give you their best price in the first year, as you get additional discounts. Just the same, as we give you an extra 10% in year 1.
However, that said, you'll continue to get the Clubcard Discount ongoing and you're 10% staff discount on renewal.
As for the service aspect, I used to be with Tesco years back too and had the same problem. The big difference now, is we own the product / call centres etc now, 1000 of our own staff (on the phones, 1500 in total). Not RBS, as it was previously.
I'm not gonna brainwash you all and say you must buy from Tesco, but the prices are generally good and i'd try them as a first port of call, or try them after you've gotten a price from everyone else, then compare.
Don't forget to enter or give your Privilegecard when you get a quote, as this drives the Clubcard discount and the staff discount! (both of these are ongoing, not just in your first year)

As for the pet insurance, all of my pets are insured with Tesco and they do offer very good prices. Thankfully I've never had cause to try and claim though, so I can't comment on the service in that regard.
Don't know about Tesco specifically but most insurance companies offer staff discount to the employee or a named spouse/partner. Either of them can be the policy holder or a named driver.

As long as you both live at the same address, you can use your staff discount on a policy, if it's:
- in your name with a partner on the policy
- in your partners name, with you as the named driver on the policy
Just remember when you take out the quote to enter your privilegecard and employee number in to the quote and buy page.

I've tesco car insurance for years and i always pay monthly and because i work for tesco i don't pay the admin fee for paying like this (until this year that is),i rang up to question them and they said they took it off the quote price(had a look and i couldn't see no discount).They didn't even have my payroll number so how can they give me a discount then.If think they realised this and they came back at me with a new quote(surprise surprise)
The interest free instalments have been taken away for staff from October 2010, as only some staff benefited from them, which meant other staff who wanted to pay in one go, didn't get any benefit. The money used to give the instalments free has now gone in to lowering everyone's premium. As a goodwill gesture, they're giving everyone an extra 10% off their renewal. You should have gotten a letter telling you this. I did, back in January.
They know you're staff through your Privilegecard number, if you've already got a policy. Anyone new has to give their Privilegcard number and employee number.

hmmm looks a bit better dont think it was worth the time or effort though. Waste of money when store budgets seem so tight. Its nice tesco have this website and i know they dont have to do it as sainsburys staff have to pay monthly fees for simirlar benefits(dont want to give tesco any ideas). Bet tesco make some commission on some of the external offers. lots of day out offers seem to be down south can we have more for northern staff.

Tesco also don't make any commission on the deals, granted, if you buy Tesco car insurance etc, then yeah the company makes money from policies, but not in the first year.

For something that has apparently just been updated, why is so much of the site information out of date.
i.e. the "Your Pay" still says coming soon.
The long service still says "you will receive your certificate from Terry Leahy"

Dont know if I am too happy with the posts from glscotslad, smacks a little bit too much of a Tescoite trying to get business for the company which could be miscontrued as advertising, which is not allowed by this site. I do appreciate a little of what he says but the majority of his posts are slanted towards the greatness of Tesco and what they do for their staff.
I am a very careful buyer when it comes to parting with money (as a lot of Tesco paid workers have to be) and through experience I know that Tesco are by no means the cheaper alternative, also I have found that their service is not improved whether it be dedicated Tesco staff or otherwise. I nearly always check on the Tesco sites before I buy anything ie electricals, home, garden, holidays etc and it is rare to find better prices with Tesco even with our discounts.
Apart from the post I made earlier about Tesco car insurance the latest check I made was for a cruise from an EXCLUSIVE STAFF BENEFIT leaflet I received with my wage slip earlier this year. The very same cruise, same liner, same dates, same ports of call was available in the Daily Mirror the same week for £104 cheaper, some EXCLUSIVE STAFF BENEFIT that was.

1. Your Pay... this is a NEW section and will be updated once the content is accurate, pay dates will be added soon, this is already in the pipeline
2. Gym List... good spot and i'll pass that back to the UK benefits team, I actually noticed that one myself the other day
3. Long Sevice... good spot and i'll let the guys in UK benefits know it's been missed
4. Briefs... around certain things can't go on the site, different staff are on different T&C's, depending on where you work, work levels etc, so you'd end up confusing people by putting them on here. It's up to each Manager to ensure they brief you correctly
5. Car Insurance...I did say compare the market and then get a price from Tesco, but remember, none of these comparison sites capture your Clubcard number, which drives up to 15% Clubcard discount and also the additional 10% Staff discount, so straight away you've lost out on a 25% discount. You only get the Clubcard discounts when you buy directly from Tesco Bank / via the benefits site
6. Staff travel agent... you should feed that back, as Thomas Cook are supposed to offer us better prices than they do to the public. I can pass your comments on to the UK benefits team if you like
As for me 'smacking of being a Tescoite', well, I guess you could say I am. I've worked for the company for 15 years, worked my way up, worked in stores, regional roles, the office and now Tesco Bank.
I don't agree with everything we do as a company, I am not a robot with no opinion, but I do think that we're the best out of the big four supermarkets in terms of how we treat staff and how we pay them. I don't forget that without the people who work in store this company would be nothing.
As for trying to sell things, i disagree, it's more about making people aware of what they are entitled to. That's what 'the little book of big staff benefits' was about. Some people don't know half the things they could save money on. Look at the example above, someone saying they found us 15th on comparison sites for Car Insurance, but they didn't know that they could have saved 25% by going through Tesco Bank site?

5. I was with tesco insurance last year, I said it was a renewal. If you tell me your best offer is £300 then thats your best offer. If you send me at the same time info that says, but if you go through the tesco bank you can get it down to £225 I'll consider that option too. I would assume you have taken into consideration both my clubcard and payroll number when making up the quote. Why would I want to jump through hoops to get the quote down, when I can just ask the meerkat? simples :)
Hi there, apologies, as I didn't realise that it was a renewal, if it's renewals, you get the Clubcard discount and staff discount included in the price. But as I've said before on previous posts, all insurers hike your premium after year one, because they all lose money from you in the first year, to get your business. I don't think it's right, I don't agree with it, but we have to do the same to compete in getting new customers.
And I completely agree with you on the briefings, you get good managers, you get bad managers, been there myself, so I can completely see where you're coming from, my advice, ask your PM, they always seem to know the answers, or they'll at least find out for you.

No, just rang T insurance and eventually got a quote that was still not the cheapest but within 10% or so, so I accepted that. ASDA were only 12th or so cheapest on the list just FYI.
How about putting a holiday request form on the site as a pdf download so thatfolks can print out there own when they run out at work?

I have used then before as they were the cheapest quoted in my area, very good service. Would use them again if the price was right.

Hi there, did you take into account the fact that insurance premiums have gone up by around 30% for all insurers over the last 12 months, due to people making false claims for whiplash etc?
One other thing to check is that they've applied your staff discount and finally... cancel the policy and then go online and take a new one, all insurance companies give discounts in the first year, meaning you'll get the best price if you do this!

It seems to me that if you have to phone up to get the absolute best price then the benefits website and quote system on there isn't doing a very good job. Surely you should be able to get the best price by using that rather than having to phone?
1. No i did not use an aggregator.....the price that is generally quoted does not always turn out what one ends up paying.
2. Why should i telephone? Surely by having a website, it cuts out the need for telephone communication.
50% of those reputable insurance companies that i contacted were at least £300 cheaper than Tesco.
Say no more.
If you double up vouchers in store you still get your full discount i.e.
Total cost £50, less £5 discount = £45
£20 vouchers doubled to £40 leaving £5 to pay.
If you double up vouchers on the Tesco Clothing website they calculate differently, you don't get your full discount i.e.
Total cost £50 - £20 vouchers doubled to £40 =£10
Less £1 discount leaving £9 to pay.
Why?
The former looks the correct way to calculate.
The discount should always be taken from the transaction total before any vouchers are applied, which is why you have to have the discount card swiped at the till before any vouchers are scanned otherwise you don't get the discount. No idea why the clothing website does it differently, I wonder if it's a mistake or if they actually have some reason behind it.
It's not a mistake, this is how the calculations were explained when it was queried. No reason for the difference was given, which is why I'm still asking ....

When you say "online" do you mean direct.tesco.com (which I assume) or groceries?
If the former then IT has got the basket calculation wrong and they should change it for consistency...for the latter, it should be the same calculation as the tills use because it is the same software as the tills behind the scenes.

It's not a mistake. It's done deliberately, customer services have confirmed this.
If it's deliberate (which sounds a bit like CS waffle to me), then it's certainly protecting Tesco margin on clothing, and I suspect that the margin on much of the clothing, especially the clothingattesco only lines, is none too good at the moment.
Especially with the added costs of that website being outsourced (website and pick/pack/ship to two separate non-Tesco companies, and payment processing to yet another).
Given that the website is outsourced, it would cost Tesco more money to get it fixed to match stores.

Forgive me if this is an obvious suggestion, but are you making sure everything is in lower case? Something as simple as using 'Tesco' rather than 'tesco' will cause the log in details to be rejected.
Sorry if this isn't the right place, but does anyone know the process for getting a replacement privilege card? Beginning to accept mines is lost, and not just misplaced.

0800 591688 is the number for clubcard enquiries. you could try them.
I believe that once you have reported your card as lost it will be deactivated to prevent anyone who now has it from using it. Unfortunately this will also include online services as well as in store.
As far as getting a replacement is concerned you should speak to your PM and/or wages clerk about it. If they don't deal with it directly in your store then they will be able to tell you who you need to see and what you need to do.
OK my first post and where is my discount card? It ran out last month and I aint got my new one :'(

Now earlier this year we had a team leader who was a theif and was nicking money out of our tills we kept getting grevience procedures against us. Then one of us a CA cottened on to this team leader and her extremely reduced potentials and her bulging bag of goodies and reported her but the team leader who worked with the theif did not notice a thing. So when my holdays got confused she had a go at me and I went ballisitc and pointed out that she was wined and dined by our one woman crimewave and didn't bloody notice so I I pointed out that my crime was insignificent to her mishap.
I just lost it what with keep being sent to the office for till losses and going through every transaction in my head I was feeling awful at the time all this was happening and here I go again talk about an easy target any advice By the way I feel awful I really like my team leader but I just feel its easy to have a go at me.

I don't tend to pay that much attention to the number of points given for any transaction so I can't say I had. I assume this has been happening since they stopped the double points so that we would be less likely to notice and put any decrease down to that.
Wow you spend £100 and get a £10 of as discount and 90 club card points (90p equivalent) and you miss out on 10 club card points or 10p....ain't life a bit hash....Oh well the free shares should compensate for that then...I wait and see...Flaming well glad I've got a job and not on minimum wages either...

Just checked my receipt from earlier, as if! I spent £49 and received 44 points after discount was applied.. I used a £12 voucher which took it down to £32 so I got the points for that.. Hmph! :p:

As I have already posted, this has already been challenged through the forums.
And yes, it is the underhand way that this has been done that has annoyed people, apparently by Clubcard, without the knowledge of HO.
You may say it's a few pence on each shop. True, but that all adds up. My guesstimate would be that Tesco are saving somewhere between a quarter and half a million pounds per year.
The forum should ask for the money being saved to be added to next years pay pot.

I've just noticed today that clubcard points received on shopping is on the value after discount. Now, I may be going crazy (I have been out Christmas shopping today so it's quite likely!) but I'm sure you used to get points on the entire (pre-discount) amount!
Is anyone out there sure as to whether this has always been the case or is a recent(ish) change...I have a receipt from October but this was also had points at the post-discount amount...anyone got anything older?

I'm not surprised there are limits on the number of rooms they would allow to be booked with the vouchers. If not they could end up with all their rooms booked with the vouchers and not making any money from them, the idea of taking part in these type of promotions is to fill unused rooms.
It sounds as if the person on the phone was they just trying to bluff their way out of a confrontation with the person on line.

There was a trial a couple of years earlier that didn't go anywhere. Reasons given for cancellation were - 1 - general lack of interest from staff and - 2- there were employees who tried to use the scheme to get bikes for their children when the whole idea is to get employees to buy a bike for themselves to commute to work.
No reason why it can't be re-trialled. Put it forward to your own Forum rep - that's the best way. ;)

The answer is yes, you will have to pay tax on it.
Oh well...I'm going to have to sell them...car will remain dead otherwise!! I've sold some before and think the deduction was somewhere in the region of about 25% off the principal amount. I paid tax then, hence my confusion.
Sounds about right, if you sell them this week, the money will be paid into your account next pay day with your wages.. Don't know if this helps but don't forget we get paid twice in August. 3rd and 31st. Me thinks a bit of early Xmas shopping is on the horizon. :)
Just been onto the Shareview Equiniti website and they have helpfully added a calculator that you can use to work out what the potential profit minus the selling fee, tax and NI deductions might be. Might be of interest to some peeps.

I'm pretty certain they start rolling out late September/ October. I've always received mine in the later month. You could always goes to Shareview Equiniti, in regards to your shares. You have to wait until the 'benefits report' booklet is sent to know the state of your pension details though.
I have just sold Conditional shares. The profit went straight into my bank account my wages are paid into within 5 days. The awarded value went to payroll for next tax and NI period.

I have a question regarding the use of the Tesco staff privilege card.
I work for Tesco and I allowed a transaction to be processed where a lady used a privilege card. I didn't question this as it is never normally policy/procedure to ask for another staff member's ID when using their card. I'm aware that only the card holder is permitted to use the card or someone else at their registered address.
Since this transaction took place, it has come to light that the lady was using a card which actually belonged to her daughter (i.e. misuse of the card). I haven't been approached about the transaction yet but I overheard some managers discussing it and I'm worried that they will try to press disciplinary because I allowed the transaction..... I'm not even sure if the lady mentioned that it wasn't her card... I can't remember in that much detail but I'm sure if she had that I wouldn't have allowed the transaction to take place.
I have no record of any disciplinary action on my staff file.
I'm just worried and looking for some advice.
Until they produce a photo-card version of the card the need for further proof should only be asked for when the card is obviously being misused. The cards should also have a bar-code on them to speed up the ever annoying times when the magnetic strip goes on strike.
I wouldn't worry too much as it would be quite unreasonable in your situation for you to have known that the card didn't belong to the customer. Unless there's something obvious like a woman trying to use a card in a man's name for instance, you really have no way of knowing unless you ask for some sort of supporting ID every time a discount card is used. Although I have been asked once or twice over the years I've never seen nor heard of this being policy and have certainly never been trained as such.
If you are pulled up about it simply ask how you're supposed to know if the card should be being used by that person and if they say to ask for ID to match to the name on the card get them to show you where you have been trained to do this/where it's written as policy.

jackandlukesmum - i think the small print does say they can withdraw offers anytime they want.
There is something for when the magnetic strip doesn't work, manually key in the card number. Its a ball ache but does the job.
Think they should allow a second card for a partner or family member (providing they live at the same address as the staff member). If a company like Wilkos can make it work successfully I don't really see why Tesco can't do. Its not always possible or convenient or possible for me to be shopping with my girlfriend so why shouldn't she be able to use my staff discount through a second card?

As far as I am aware this isn't a problem as long as you, as the cardholder, are present. Certainly I've done it before a number of times without any problem and nobody has ever specifically said that it's not allowed to me.
According to the Tesco Privilege Card Rules on the benefits website:
"The goods purchased using the Privilegecard must be for personal use of the employee, their partner/spouse, or any other family member living permanently with the employee at the employee's address as held on Company records".
It doesn't say anything about who is actually paying. So I would think that as long as you are present and the person paying is a permanent member of your household there should be no problem.

Yes, you are.
The rules are designed to stop abuse. For example some unscrupulous staff may be tempted to sell a discount card on.
Everyone has a limit to the amount of discount you are able to receive for the same reason. I think it is a spend of £7500 or £750 discount.
I don't see any problem using the allowance up to help family and friends, especially on big ticket items.
You get the discount because you've earnt it. Use it. :)

Just had a letter in the post where having a double discount weekend 20% off instead of 10% from 28th to the 30th. Mite go a bit mental and stock up on the offers on the long life items.

Getting a few more staff to spend a little bit more over a weekend really is not going to make much difference to Tesco,sales wise. It is a good will gesture,just take it as that. Yes we all want more,but realistically,we know that won't happen.
oh yes the great company who carnt even pay allied bakeries what they owe. Take it thats business as well. sorting this company is easy but no one got the brains or balls to do it. There is a good chance that the free shares will be back in future years ,possibly even next year. It is not as if we didn't get anything,we are getting a cash payment instead,so what have we lost? Some dividend payments,thats all. And if the company is in such a mess(as people are saying on here) then the share price will crash and you will actually be better off having a cash payment rather than shares.

In all probability they have probably noticed a decline in staff sales. It will be interesting to see if anymore occasions of the "Double Discount Weekend" happen, it has a ring to it, it would be a shame for them not to use it more than once.

its just another bit of spin by tesco , the co op , do double discount weekends through out the year ( normally bank holidays but not certain ) , and so do Morrison's ( who also have two discount cards ) , and even the asda have the same double discount weekends occasionally , slightly off topic if you are a Doncaster driver then you have been robbed of another benefit because you work for Stobbarts now and Tesco have robbed you of the double discount promotion . >:( >:( .

I can't see a problem with gifts, the purchaser is the employee if you gift it after it shouldn't be a problem.
As for purchasing on behalf of someone else to be redeemed, only for Friends or family living at your address.
I would imagine they have a closer eye on it this weekend.
If I purchase goods from my own pocket and use my privilege card, what I do away from the Store after that, is my own business. Whether it be as a gift, shopping on behalf of someone else to be redeemed or selling the goods on ebay.

Did any staff take advantage of the twenty per cent discount weekend and gain substantially from it ? , i personally did not see very many extra sales in our store ( unless the stores staff travelled to an Extra store , which a fair few do any way for there normal shop to take advantage of the offer ) , the instore reports i have looked at all seem fairly average as usual for our selves . I worked at a local Tesco for 8/9 years,
and I sign up for the free shares in success deal.
I no longer work there but I have a free shares in success certificate and I am still getting notification through the post about the free shares,
so I email a few company's, including Tesco customer service and USDAW (the union who helps Tesco workers.)
Some guy from Tesco customer service rings me the evening of Friday 19th October 2012 and tells me he has checked with his team leader and to sell my shares in success I have to sell them through Equiniti.
Earlier the same day I got a email from Pauline Foulkes National Officer Usdaw
Now and they have both said I have to sell my shares in success through Equiniti,

also I went to my bank yesterday they said I might be able to sell my Tesco shares through them (I have emailed them waiting for a reply) and if they cant do it I should be able to sell them through a stockbroker they also advised me to get in touch with the Citizens Advice Bureau which I have done but I am waiting on a reply from them.

What is the advantage to selling your shares by someone other than Equiniti?
Despite what people think selling (and buying) shares is very easy. Most banks and some building societies offer stock broking facilities its largely a matter of registering. As long as you have your share certificates to hand, you register, pick up the phone and deal its as simple as that. Yes there are fees involved but there are fees involved anyway. The reason I personally wouldnt use equiniti or sell through tosco is that I choose to pick my own buying/selling prices and therefore the best possible price available at that time rather than be part of a job lot on one set day with no control over the selling price. If the stock market price falls I can hold off until it improves or not as the case may be but the point is its my choice. If your not to fussy about your share prices and you don't mind taking your chances then fine use tosco but if you want to control your dealings then contact your bank or building society. .
If you have your share certificate,you can sell through Equiniti,in the same way ,choosing your own price. You can set a certain price to sell for if you like and if the price doesn't reach that ,they will not be sold.
True but the point I was trying to make is that with real time dealing you have complete control. If the share price takes a sudden jump you can still take complete advantage rather than being tied in.
Hope you don't mind me going back to 20% discount I work in an Extra we were so busy never seen so many staff shopping, loads from other stores it was nice to see the place so busy! There are rumours going round the store that 20% discount will be back around next pay day but possibly for a week because its too busy of a weekend?! Has anyone else heard this ? :)

As far as we could find out,the payment should be during this week(starting 04/02/13) But,this isn't 100% confirmed. Myself and several others are also waiting on this option,so hopefully this will be correct.

It never went away, HeadOfficeElf. The rules of the scheme only allow a profit distribution as shares when profits are high enough and in 2011/12 profits weren't high enough therefore no free shares - only cash!
Presumably the scheme was negotiated with USDAW ??? Some of the 'blame' for no free shares must lie there then?
The scheme was never negotiated, it was put into place by Tesco alone.
Obviously the union were advised but were never involved in its formulation.
Obviously they never objected they saw the benefit for all their members in the company wanting to share the profit with its employees
Probably wont get them this year as well, profits are going to be down by about 3% according to some sources.
I would be extremely surprised if Tesco profit is down on last year, so where the views of down 3% on last year has come from I don't know.

I must say. As pessimistic a person that I am, I must admit, with this new Price guarantee scheme in place, whatever one may think, it could make a big difference if the gamble pays off.
It was almost 4 times that in the half year results.
The last official report in October 2012 reported
Group profit down 11.6%.
The profit report in October 2011 saw an increase of 12.1% which projected to 5.3%@ end of year April 2012.
So even considering the £1Billion investment are we really going to see an increase this end of year.
So a predicted 3% decrease on last year would be quite optimistic. A no decrease prediction would be appear naive based on the information so far.

People aren't soft, they may price match at the till but giving you a voucher where you have to come back into what amounts to a dearer store is only a promise to overcharge you again.

An affect on shares in success of course may be the 3% decline in profit that had been suggested and of course Phillips investment of £1 billion on the business, may have that affect on the profit of course.

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place but I have a question about pay. We are paid every 4 weeks on a Friday. But for what period? Some of my colleagues think its for the 4 weeks ending on the Wednesday just before pay day, others tell me its the Wednesday 1 week before pay day.

So coming back to this topic and past posts. Does this years return to profit share in shares rather than cash like last years award actually make last years award look better than some felt it was at the time, we have seen a 50% cut in the award within 1 year.
With regard to the award being given in shares rather than cash being reliant on % profit, have we paid for the eligibility of shares? as the 50% cut in the award surely is a factor in increasing % profit.
So for all those who were disenchanted with a cash award last year in favour of shares are you happy to receive less in order to satisfy your preference.? Or in light if this years award are you now of a different opinion about last years award, what seems to now be the lesser of 2 evils as it were?

Pretty certain you will not get the cash bonus as it's based on this years pay, and anyone who leaves before the end loses it.

smitaly69, whether or not you get the cash bonus depends on the nature of your leaving, aside from redundancy some other methods of leaving 'retain' the right to the cash bonus and, as I recollect, at least one poster on here has said her hubby got his earlier this year following, I think, retirement. If you simply resigned then, as far as I know you have kissed the cash bonus good-bye.
Re SIS shares, as far as I remember 2010's and 2011's became 'yours' after one year i.e. in 2011 and 2012 respectively. However to become tax etc. free they had to be left in the scheme for 5 years. As I understand it you should be entitled to those shares but they will be liable to tax and N.I.
As far as I know you can choose to have Equinity/Tesco
a) sell all of them and pay the tax etc. for you or
b) sell enough to pay the tax etc and keep the rest or
c) you can, I believe, pay the tax etc. yourself and provide Equinity/Tesco with proof that you have done so. The shares will then be transferred to you in either a certificate or electronic form.
Sorry I don't remember whether the 'value' of the shares for tax purposes will be their original purchase price or the price at which they 'leave' the SIS scheme.
With regard to 2013's SIS shares, things changed a bit and they become yours after three years, I do not recollect any exceptions to that rule so I think you have kissed good bye to those, sorry.

addendum re 2010 and 2011 SIS shares, it has just come to mind that their are exceptions to their being laible to tax etc. these exception depend on the nature of your leaving. Equinity should be able to confirm all this in writing.

In May this year Tesco announced its intention to award a cash bonus payable in 2015/2017 instead of a Shares in Success award in 2012.
Following feedback from Usdaw/SATA members and representatives we are aware that this decision caused confusion and disappointment.
In the communication to stores/sites Tesco conveyed the impression that Usdaw was consulted on this decision. This was not the case.
Usdaw immediately sought a meeting with Tesco to discuss the following issues:
* The rationale for awarding a cash bonus instead of a shares award
* The future of the Shares in Success scheme
* The treatment of leavers
Following constructive discussions with Tesco please find a summary of the outcome below.
All Tesco-staff will receive an individual letter and a Q&A explaining the decision to award a cash bonus payable in 2015/2017 instead of a shares award.
Tesco have not closed the Shares in Success scheme and have given a reassurance of their commitment to keep a performance related bonus scheme for all employees.
Tesco acknowledge they should have provided an award for staff who leave the business for reasons such as retirement before May 2015.
Tesco have confirmed that an equivalent award will be available to staff who leave the business before the award date in 2015 for the following reasons:
* Redundancy
* Retirement with notice
* Full or Partial Ill Health Retirement
* Death in Service
* TUPE Transfer Out
Usdaw would have preferred Tesco to extend the arrangements beyond the listed group above. However we believe this decision addresses the main areas of concern raised by our members.

What are the differences between the Cash Bonus and Shares In Success?
The Cash Bonus is not a replacement "scheme" for Shares In Success. The Cash Bonus Scheme recognised our desire to recognise the efforts of colleagues and is a contribution towards the missed opportunity of not having Shares In Success in 2012. Therefore there are a number of differences between the two schemes:
* Shares In Success rewards colleagues for the contribution they have made in the previous financial year. The Cash Bonus is designed to reward colleagues who are with us at the award date in 2015 as it rewards future contribution and loyalty.
* With the cash bonus, you will not benefit from any share price increases or dividends paid between now and when you receive the cash bonus. Equally, the amount of the cash bonus you receive will not fall if our share price falls. You will benefit from any growth in salary between now and the award date.
Under Shares In Success the shares awarded to you become available to sell 3 years after the award date, on a conditional basis. This means that if you sell them between 3-5 years after the award date they are subject to tax and National Insurance. From 5 years after the award they are available to sell tax and National Insurance free.
The cash bonus applies similar treatment so if you choose to take your award on the first award date in May 2015 it will be subject to tax and National Insurance. If you choose to take your award at the second award date in May 2017 it will still be subject to tax and National Insurance, however, it will be paid in such a way that you receive the full award of 3.6% (capped at £3,000) e.g. gross.
Has anything changed following staff feedback on leaver treatment for the Cash Bonus?
We have listened carefully to the feedback we have received from staff. In particular we have received a number of comments from colleagues who are planning to retire or who may for certain reasons leave the Company before the award date. We understand their disappointment that under the rules we communicated, they would not be eligible for the Cash Bonus.
To recognise this we intend to provide a separate cash award of equivalent value for any colleagues who leave the business before the award date for the following reasons:
* Redundancy
* Retirement with notice
* Full & Partial Ill Health Retirement
* Death in Service
* TUPE Transfer Out
We are currently working on how this payment will be processed and will communicate further with Personnel Managers as soon as this has been agreed. We will write to any colleagues who have already left the business and are eligible for this payment.
What does the future look like — is this the end of Shares In Success?

Questions & Answers
Who will receive the cash bonus?
All UK employees who are employed on 25th February 2013 and remain employed until the award date of May 2015. If you leave before the award date in May 2015, you will not receive any bonus under the scheme.
What happens if I leave due to redundancy, retirement, death in service, Ill health retirement or TUPE between now and the award date in May 2015?
We have listened to the feedback we have received from colleagues who are disappointed that they will not receive the Cash Bonus it they leave before the award date in May 2015.
We are pleased to confirm that we have an alternative equivalent award for any colleague who leaves the business for the following reasons, before the award date in May 2015:
* Redundancy
* Retirement with notice
* Full & Partial Ill Health Retirement
* Death in Service
* TUPE Transfer Out
If you are in this situation your Personnel Manager will discuss this with you before you leave the business.
What happens to employees who left the business due to redundancy, retirement, death in service, ill health retirement or TUPE after the eligibility date for Shares In Success? Will they receive anything?
To be eligible for the cash bonus employees need to be in the business on the award date in May 2015. Under Shares In Success we describe that if an employee leaves for these reasons alter the end of the financial year but before the award date they may be eligible for cash compensation instead of shares. As no award has been made under Shares In
Success this year no payments will be made under this scheme.
However, to recognise the contribution of our colleagues in this situation we have decided to award them an alternative payment based on the principles of the cash bonus. This will be managed centrally and we will shortly be writing to anyone this applies to.
What happens if I choose not to take the cash bonus in May 2015 but leave before May 2017?
The cash bonus payment based on your earnings in the 2014/15 financial year (up to a maximum of £3,000) will be paid on leaving after deduction of tax and National Insurance.
Is this a permanent change, to move away from Shares In Success?
The decision to make a Shares In Success award is discretionary. Each year the business makes a decision whether an award will be made based on the performance of the UK. Although the Tesco Executive Committee decided not to award Shares In Success in 2012 the decision for next year's award has not yet been made. We have not closed the Shares In Success scheme and intend to keep a performance related all employee bonus scheme. We are working on a review to ensure that it is a reward that colleagues will value.
Can Tesco make this change to Shares In Success?
We have not changed or closed the Shares In Success scheme.
Shares In Success and the Tesco Cash Bonus scheme are discretionary schemes agreed by the Executive Committee who review and make a decision each year on whether an award will made and what the value would be.
Will my cash bonus be subject to Income Tax and National Insurance?
Your cash award will be subject to tax and NI in both 2015 and 2017. However, if you choose to take your award in 2017, you will receive a grossed up sum that means the sum of cash you receive after tax will be your full award.
With Shares In Success, if you sell your shares after three years tax and NI is payable on this money. The difference between the two schemes is that after five years with the Shares In Success scheme, the shares became genuinely tax free. The new cash bonus scheme tries to replicate this scenario in 2017 even though tax and NI must still be paid on the cash bonus.
Will the Cash Bonus payment increase my P60 earnings?
The cash bonus will show on your P60 as the gross amount in the year that you decide to take your bonus. This is the same as the Shares In Success scheme where the proceeds from selling your shares (when they become conditionally available after 3 years) also shows as a gross amount on your P60.
We have received feedback from colleagues concerned about the potential impact a cash award could have on their eligibility for Tax Credits. We are currently investigating this to establish if there is any way to lessen any impact. We will include further information on this in our communications before the award is paid in 2015.
What will happen for colleagues who have reduced earnings in 2014/15 due to Maternity?
We acknowledge and are considering the impact of this award on colleagues who have a period of lower earnings in the 2014/15 financial year due to maternity.
Are any previous awards of Shares In Success impacted by this change?
No, previous awards of Shares in Success are not impacted. Details cf these can be found in your Benefit Report issued in October or within the annual Share Incentive Plan (SIP) mailing you have recently received.
I would have received dividends for my Shares In Success shares whilst they were in trust - do I now lose out on this?
You will still continue to receive dividends on previous Shares In Success awards that are held in Trust until such time as you sell these shares.
With the cash bonus, you will not benefit from any share price increases or dividends paid between now and when you receive the bonus, as it is being paid in cash rather than shares. Equally the amount of bonus you receive will not fall if our share price falls. You will benefit from any growth in salary between now and the award date.

You'll probably find it has to do with the minimum price regulations. On some of the wine sel's it states "No further discount will be applied to this item" I'm not aware of any list or link though.

Also, it seems you don't get the Clubcard points on the discount that you didn't get; ie spend £30 on two bottles of spirits - no staff discount - pay £30 and receive 27 Clubcard points!

So the bonus this year is 3.6% of 2014/15 earnings. What happens about Maternity/Paternity pay during this year? The info given merely states that it is being considered. It's a big drop if it's calculated based on SMP! When are they planning on telling us?

I will be playing devils advocate here. When we applied for a job in Tesco we knew the pay when we joined.If you read any papers you would know the board are on crazy money and always have been. I think its right to expect a pay rise every year at or above inflation.
This is what I don't get - why do so many people not just want but are disgruntled that huge hikes in pay arent forthcoming .The pay were talking about that would put us far above any others in the retail sector from supermarkets right down to the min wage corner shop worker. I'm all for better benefits but don't we have to be a little realistic.
Apart from the fact that the gap between the top and the bottom is growing, the whole sector is underpaid. They CAN afford to pay us a living wage but choose not to on the basis of unskilled work. But why shouldn't we expect a FAIR days pay for a fair days work. Why should the state subsidise the wage bills of companies such as tosco?
Drone 33 I know what the Tories are doing with the minimum wage but isn't that the idea at the end of five years it will match the living wage.

hi i understand what you are saying but the retail industry is well underpaid for the work carried out it does not matter that we are above other retailers,in general the whole industry is underpaid compared with cleaners for example who qoute minimum of £10 per hour.
over the years pay has been increased but other benefits have stayed or been reduced to give an example the bonus of 3.5% was given because it was earn' t 3 years ago .

Yes you right. If you look at all benefits Tesco is offering you and you compare it to real life situations you will see that it is all c**p.
Let me give you basic example. If you earn extra £50 more a month then that money can be invested. At the end of the year you will end up with £600 more plus interest, it is more than one off £600 bonus.
Currently one of my saving accounts is giving me 2%(after tax) profit every 4 months so i would prefer much higher salary than stupid bonuses once a year. Yes Tesco is offering shares which can give you some dividend plus you can gain if price did rise but for the last few years now shares price is lower and lower etc
chris9977 I'm assuming you mean self employed cleaner or private cleaning company rather than cleaner themselves. If that is the case this £10 includes travelling to and from your property and chemicals/cloths and equipment used. If you ask the cleaners who clean in store what they are on and you would see your way off the mark.
I feel sorry for some of the single guys i work with, they take home pay is not much more than £900 a month on full time hours and they are paying £400+ rent plus other bills added to it. They are lucky to have £50 quid in the pocket for a month's work and that's one example why we don't get paid enough. In my world, you should have at least a minimum of £100 a week in your pocket after bills been paid.

A few of us in our store have just qualified for the 25 years long service award.
We have all opted to take the money and organise our own meal rather than go on the company one.
We have heard from staff at another store that they have done this and have also been given a paid day off.
Our manager said this is not right and only those who choose to go on the company meal qualify for the day off.
Anyone know who's right?

in reply to my comment about cleaners on £10 per hour yes that is a private individual and around our area they will not clean for less than £10 per hour,and to comment on tesco cleaners yes they may be on less than £7.00 per hour but tesco pay the contractors (there employers) considerably more i expect.
My wife cleans holiday homes near us and she is paid £11.50 an hour! She does less hours but brings home more money than I do and I'm full time!

Just queried my discount on a recent delivery and found that discount is not allowed on certain products. Had a look on the Our Tesco site, and found a list, but don't know how to send a link! I have took a screenshot of it, but also don't know how to send a photo. It's listed somewhere under benefits, and then rules of the Privelege card.

We had never seen this before and attempted to login, it says your one time password can be found on wageslip, presumably in the box for the activation code for online wageslip. Do you have to get this OTP online at wageslip

Just a wee question. How would I go about merging my discount card and my better halves card? Noticed that there were separate club card vouchers. I thought they would automatically have been joined as one account when we got the extra card this year.
Just contact club card and they will merge them.
Tesco staff are actually on the minimum wage. Most places get paid for their their breaks,lunch etc..So if you work it out overall we are just on the minimum wage..

Discount cards are now automatically sent to your home address when issued. If you haven't got it have you checked Tesco has your correct address?

Yes that still happens,my next door neighbour and his wife both reached 25 years service late last year and they are currently off on holiday all the time at the moment.

The second discount card should turn up next week. I thought the cards may have had barcodes on so they could be scanned.
It makes sense to have barcodes to use pay at pump for petrol instead of having to go to kiosk as well.
You could put old cards into card reader at pump surely this one will be the same !

would it matter if someone did hack it? I don't think someone would do that just to go out and get a 10% discount and have to pay the rest of the 90%

You can buy credit card sized hack proof sleeves to keep your cards in, I keep my cards in these sleeves, because it's 50/50 chance of implicit behavior. 8)
I got a pack of these sleeves but just line my wallet with them. You can get an app for your phone to test that the cards are not scannable. while in the sleeve / wallet.

Re: the 25 years service thing, would it be normal to do the handing out the box a week AFTER the date, I would've thought on the date or before would be the correct way, and would it be right to expect the same treatment as other staff re store gifts ?, other people got £45 worth of flowers & bubbly, I got a 6 pack, LATE !!!!

I got called into the office and asked if I wanted all the fuss made of it ;D I said no, so a few days later they handed me the box with the banner and all that in it, with a card and letter and that was it. Each staff member had been told about my 25 years, and those that wanted to gave me a pat on the back and said how brave I had been ;)

SAYE Option price of £1.68 :( :( looking at the link on VLH for today's share closing price it says £1.76.85 down 2.25 p ( -1.26% ) , If / should the Booker deal fail how much further might the share price fall ? , You could end up buying at a higher price than they sell for ? :-X :-X . You should have got an email . Download the pdf it has the dates but they are sold in batches over a week and you get an average price . From last Thurs they have ranged in price from 202p-211p which depending on the number of shares can make a huge difference to what you get .

Recently I injured my hand at work and have been off sick for the past couple of day..,wait for surgery.impossible back to work ..after surgery minimum2weeks rehabilitation.. i ask managers about sick hours and take the reply..zero 0..not allowed..i have previously sick this year from january to march and back 28 march to work..this is a planned operation..its a possible not more sick hours???where my rights??if anyone have a info please ..help

If you've only worked for the company for 5 years you would only be entitled to 5 weeks sick pay assuming you hadn't taken any sick days previously. As you were off work from January to March you will have used all your sick entitlement. It doesn't reset until your anniversary start e.g start Date 30 September your sick entitlement will reset on 30 September. You should be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay but this will only be paid after the first 3 days of sickness.
Planned operations are paid but only if you still have sick entitlement, otherwise it's not.

Your entitlement would reset 23/02. However, if you had any other absences prior to the absence January to March they could have already been used. It's very complicated.

Nothing stopped you from buying shares before this was announced. I'm not sure if saye gets you divedends anyway as at that point you don't have the shares jsut a pot that is set aside to buy them at a discounted price later.
Very true madness but for the colleagues up and down the country who can't afford to put into SAYE it just seems another slap in the face 5 billion times.

That's right no dividend for SAYE. SIP give you dividend.
Another thing to mention currently there is nearly 9.8 bilion shares issued. That would be 51p per share (give a take a penny).
Those who will leave Tesco b4 possible payout must transfer SIP into shares ISA otherwise when they leave tesco shares must be sold so they loose dividend. Correct me if im wrong.

Yeah the bonus for hourly paid colleagues in store was exchanged for the 2 year 10% payrise negotiations.
These 2 bit 2 year pay review con jobs are Dave Lewis's way of distracting you with disingenuous pay rises, showing raises with very optimistic large percentage figures that are only true in very specific scenarios with one hand and taking away your workers rights and staff benefits with the other, not to mention the added shenanigans of delaying when the increases take effect, these 2 year pay reviews actually get delayed more than 12 months for each part of it year on year.
You'd honestly have better hours, more money and generally more competent retail managers outside of food retail, working in other areas of retail such as a phone shop pays better and is less stressful.

You don't get the bonus if you are on holiday, you don't get it if you are off sick or in isolation so you won't get it if you have been made redundant and are no longer with the company.

if you're referring to "paid sick leave" (rather than statutory sick pay), then you would not be entitled to this unless you've been with Tesco for at least 20 years!!

So, let's say you're contracted for 35 hours and earn £350 a week.
If you had a week off sick, then you'd get nothing for first three days and then the equiv of about £98 a week

Amount of company sick pay is based on length of service, some reasons are exempt from the 3 day unpaid sickness policy, if I remember correctly you have to have at least 6 months service to qualify for any company sick pay.

What I’ve been told by my colleagues is that we start with 6 weeks sick. Can’t access our Tesco info cause my management is abysmal :( and I’m too anxious to ask in case they give me c**p when I get back!
apologies for the wrong info - as I say, not had to call in sick myself, and being contracted to only a "few" days a week - basically, I'd have to be sick for nearly three weeks before I got anything!!
If you aren't being paid correctly as according to the policies you'll have 3 months to challenge it, get a copy of the sick pay policy and a copy of your payslip showing you haven't been paid as according to policy, raise it informally with your manager and the payroll team if necessary, if it takes longer than a week and they're clearly delaying or avoiding paying you, go to ACAS to start the process to claim back your money, the last stage it will end up at is a small claims court where most of the time they will pay up.
To add to there is a minimum number of hours you have to work in your contract to be eligible for SSP, but I can't remember the number.

Your access to Ourtesco is nothing to do with your manager - you just need to know your employee number - and then sign up with a password.
If you've only been working for a year, you'll only be entitled to a max of one week contractual sick pay. (two weeks if you've been working between 1-2 years)

No the payday voucher books went in exchange for the 15 percent discount after payday, the Christmas vouchers are a totally separate thing.

Ok, so we're getting a 10% bonus on our hours for 4 weeks. Not to be sniffed at ......but I'm guessing it's not going to be a quiet one!!
the 20% discount is really only an uplift on the "normal 15%" we get after payday - so it's basically an extra 5% and runs for a few days more.
The other change is just semantics - yes a lot of people complained that the discount should run from payday - so from that point of view, it's helpful - but nothing "extra"
Unfortunately, the bottom line, whether we like it or not, is that many people would be grateful to have a job - so moaning about no Christmas vouchers is the least of our worries.

I agree , I would think that those on the lower end of the pay scale will be able to get it tax free , and for all of us to spend it on what we want ,, Aldi and so on which the vouchers did not allow us to do making us spend it in store ,,
For the rest of you it should work out at about £7 per £100 over 4 weeks ,and the 20% for one week as well as looking forwards to the 15% each pay day going forwards ,
I think it was a pain carrying around the vouchers ,losing them , and in some cases having to chase around the Managers when they did not give them to us ,,
Also is it not a great way to make sure every one does the Hours during these time , cuts down on sick ,, well you all don't think they are just thinking of you do you ? :D

I'm not sure we'll get a 10% bonus every Christmas ......I still think this is somewhat connected with Covid.
I think its all linked part to do with the Virus part to do with them removing the Coupons , I dont think it has to anything to do with the new CEO since they would have decided to get rid of the Coupons long time ago , as to will you get it every year I would think it would be a good idea if they did since part of the problem around this time of year is staff going sick or taking Holidays , after all some will rethink about booking holidays/sick since it will be paid only for those that work the hours ,,
i think your right it is connected with covid and the extra burden on the work because of it , i was suprized when i read somewhere that next year (2021) they are contining with the 15% discount after payday (although changing from M-Th to F-mon) i was under the impresion this was a given the reason given to replace the chrismas vouchers.
They can’t even get the self scans to take 10% staff discount off a £3 meal deal in my store at the moment.

You can self refer on the nhs for cbt but there maybe a wait. There's definitely stuff online though.

I was wondering if anyone was worried about losing money on their Tesco Shares this month with the share consolidation of every 19 shares being reduced to 15 per shareholder?
I know they are giving all shareholders 50p per share to compensate the loss of shares but i can't help feeling i will lose some money here.
I'm not really experienced in share trading though so i'd appreciate anyone's feedback if they know better and understand fully what will happen.

Thanks, that's my next plan, I found the t's & c's of t**co mobile and it does say card for life and retired members qualify, yet when you speak with them over the phone they can't help you so hopefully phone shop staff can help.

I work for One Stop and have never been able to access the Our Tesco website to find out about our benefits etc. I can access the Tesco Colleagues Deals and Discount website. I don't know what I need to log into the Our Tesco site. Can someone help me as to what to do, who to contact etc. I did try this 2 years ago, but all tesco came back to me was with the colleague deals website.

Considering the way things are going it won't be long before that little benefit gets hit on the head too no doubt. They've taken just about everything else benefit-wise off of us in the last few years - nothing much left apart from the wages we work for - and it's one hell of a fight to get even those sorted & reimbursed if we've been paid short due to overtime, etc.
Tesco are looking at changes to long service awards where instead of a gift card you get clubcard points for a lower value that you could double up into clubcard deals.

There have always been changes. Several times in my time with the company I have got close to retaining and the boundaries were moved.
As it stands atm: one's age + years worked within the company must add up to 80 I believe, but it would be really interesting to know what the previous requirements were. Can you (or anyone else) remember, Red Shoes?

It was just a straight forward 15 years service for years.
Before that I think it was 10. I'm a bit hazy on that but I remember I got close to it and it moved.
I feel that there were more changes than this but these are what I remember.
Discount was signed for, only one card.
No 15% weekends of double discount. No double discount events. No rewards.
Uniform was kept in a huge wardrobe and when I started I was asked what size I was and was given previously owned uniform from a cupboard. We had to wear our own black/navy skirt and white blouse and an overdress that was gingham and previously worn. No trousers for women and the name on your badge was Mr Bloggs or Mrs Doe for example. Huge uproar when this changed. People did not want customers to know our names. I always thought this silly as easier to trace by a last name. Many colleagues used a different name, unconnected to own name. We went from calling manager Mr Bloggs and Mrs Doe to Joe and Jane
We did have cooks and a three course meal was available in the canteen for 50p but that was over 30 years ago. There were a considerable amount of full time staff.
Staff shop came and went, several times. Sunday opening came and went. Saturday premium was paid to full time colleagues. Full time colleagues did not work Sat to save on paying premium but customers complained that there were only young students in on Sat so full time colleagues were brought back and after that you would never get full time hours without working Sat.

The crazy thing is the name badge issues was still causing issues as late as 2019, for example a newly appointed SM decided a CA had to change there badge to one matching there legal name despite said person being known by the name on his badge since childhood, several grievances and two SD's getting involved later and the outcome was yes you can have a name on your badge that is not your legal name.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned I cant actually search for this answer. My Mother in Law is employed by Tesco and has been off work now for 6 moths with cancer but is due to go into Hospice next week. Its not looking good probably only a week or so before we lose her. Tesco offered her a £50 voucher for her to retire! I was fuming. Obviously she told them to shove it! Just sorting finances for my Father in law. What is the death in service benefit and will he get it? :(
Don't take Tesco on your mother in law will be entitled to one and a half times her annual salary for every year she has worked for them.
If in the Tesco pension 5 times salary, if not 1 yrs pay. Best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear of your mother in law's failing health, and am shocked at this offer made for her to retire!!
Is this something that came down from head office or just from the store? Do you have it in writing?
Your mother in law will have probably filled in a form for her 'expression of wish' which would have instructed to whom she's bequested her pension and 'death in service' payments to.
The union should know the exact amount of entitlement years in regard 'death in service' payment which should go to your father in law unless your mother in law expressed another or others to receive.
If your mother in law is a union member she will also be entitled to a small death grant, its is a very small amount, but nevertheless it's her entitlement.
Contact either the union local office or Tesco helpline with regard the amount of in service payment years entitlement, they should be able to tell you immediately.
Regarding the £50 payment offer...make a note of date, time and name of who made that offer...if you have it in writing even better!
Not only is it insulting...it's discriminatory...it's totally wrong, unacceptable and highly insensitive to your mother in law!
In time, when your father in law and the family have come through the grief and loss, take out a grievance against whoever made that offer!
My thoughts are with you and your family at this very difficult time :(
Only Tesco employees can raise a grievance against other Tesco employees, Reef101 from their message implies they don't work at Tesco. A complaint would be the mechanism to bring up dissatisfaction and insensitivity of the managers.
While the mother in law is employed by Tesco, the death benefit will apply as well as any pension she has saved provided she has filled in the pension nomination forms and stated her beneficiaries which would have been done at the same time usually.
If she hasn't done this, then It's very difficult to get this through.
Whatever you do, make sure she doesn't retire before her death otherwise she'll no longer be classed as employed by Tesco and will lose her death benefit (I believe it was 5 times gross salary last I checked, but this could have changed in recent years).

They will still be able to take a grievance out against either the store or Tesco itself for the offer!! The lady could put in a written grievance to the area PP the meantime...preferably by Email for the communication trail and then take it further at a later date, after the poor lady has passed, as the initial grievance was still lodged whilst an employee.
Tesco can't brush it under the carpet then...can they >:(
I'm not sure what happens to grievances after the death of the aggrieved employee, from Reefs comment, she doesn't have long left to go, I'm not sure what the value would be of a grievance being raised in such a tragic circumstance, if it's as a record of dissatisfaction that such an offer was made, a complaint from a relative or beneficiary would probably be more fruitful in getting some sort of acknowledgement of insensitivity from Tesco if that is the aim.
In her final days, I doubt she would want to go through with the bureaucracy of raising and following on a grievance
As long as she's still employed by Tesco when she dies she shouldn't need to worry about anything else and focus on the more important and sentimental aspects of her life and legacy.
Again I agree with the majority of your post, however...as many will testify, once you are no longer in the employ of Tesco, it is nigh on impossible to get any contact or access to anyone in Tesco.
You're mainly left with unanswered'phone calls or emails. You can't just wander into the workplace and ask for updates. Doubly hard for a non ex employee.
I doubt any grievance will proceed instantaneously, as any investigation would need to be conducted thoroughly . Due to its nature, and adding to the sensitivity of the situation, nominating a named person to be a point of contact, as their chosen representative, should be accepted. The grievance should be made against the store, as this automatically gets taken out of any internal investigation. No one from their workplace can ask, approach, question or make comment regarding the grievance. Especially important in this case that the store manager cannot be involved as I would wonder if that £50 gift voucher idea came from them, as I can't see any other employee making that offer without their knowledge!
If this only serves in an initial written acknowledgement from Tesco, it will give easier access for referral at a later date. If the lady is a union member, her union rep and area rep should be made aware of the grievance and witness it's handing in by her chosen representative, by being given a copy of the written grievance letter. Their names and contact details should be kept for future reference also.
Let's not forget the grievance is against an employee of Tesco offering a terminally ill colleague an offer of money, to forfeit their rights to a substantial amount of monetary payout! Losing this benefit to their family after their passing. How easy do you think that's going to be to prove, taking out a complaint later on?
The wheels need to be set in motion whilst still an employee and their right to making that grievance against the store under her T&C's!
It may be that they wish to take legal advice at a later date, so any names, dates, contact details and written responses will serve them better than being ran round in circles by Tesco becoming very evasive.

Maybe it does,maybe the offer of giftcard was misinterpreted as part of ill health early retirement maybe was offered to the lady,still abit underhand though
This £50 gift card for retirement is correct, but this offer surely can not just be made by management surely she would have to apply to retire on health grounds through payroll/ pensions dept. if she has not done this and not signed anything then the family should just put in a claim for death in service when the unfortunate time comes.
