New Starter pay rate
« on: 20-09-19, 01:16PM »
Hi, I started at Tesco 12 weeks ago and am being paid the starter rate of £8.21 p/h.  Does anyone know if the rate should still be £8.21 now that there has been a pay rise for established staff? I thought that starter rate was 90% but my payslip for this month still shows the same rate I was getting before.

I was also wondering, how long do you stay on the starter rate? I was taken on as a temp but I have now signed a permanent contract if that makes a difference!

THanks!

Last I checked it's 6 months service to become established, established ca rate is  £9.00 an hour, I haven't heard non-established rates being 90% of the established rate though (That does apply to options managers but I'm unsure with cas), even if it was the case, 90% of £9.00 is £8.10 an hour, which would be below the national living wage (even if you're under 24, Tesco pays all ca's the same) so £8.21 is still within 90% of the ca rate.

Iirc you become established at the same time you get your colleague discount card.

Thanks for the reply! Not great to hear that we will now be paid nearly .80p p/h less than everyone else but it is what it is I suppose!

It's 13 weeks for established now. New starters prior to 13 weeks still get £8.21 as it still matches minimum wage.

The established period is the same for all employees regardless of age.
