Had this yesterday and have to say that I am not sure that I am comfortable with a third party listening in and recording my voice without my express consent.  Thoughts?

It's illegal to record someone else without their consent.

You're on their property, they can record you if they wish. We have a customer who videos the delivery its no biggie, as a single female living in the middle of nowhere she feels safer so why care?
Also if in a public place they don't need your permission to film or record you.

Ahh, sorry I thought this was in store, yes on their property or in a public place they can record you. They'll need your permission to record you on Tesco property however.

Missing the point.  It is not the customer who is making the recording it is a third party with whom neither I nor the company have any relationship.

The customer owns the device, and the customer is the one who starts any recording, as Amazon echos only record after being toggled by the word Alexa.

Though the audio is uploaded to Amazon’s servers, but I don’t see how that would change anything regards privacy or consent.

People are happy to have their voiceprint saved for who knows what purpose now or in the future without their consent?  I am not.

Don’t understand the big issue here. If you’re worried about privacy and personal data, then you probably shouldn’t be on the internet. Every device, every app, every bit of technology you interact with collects your data in some way or another. That’s the cost of this modern age. If you aren’t doing anything unethical, then there’s no need to be so worried.

Quit your job and never leave the house or communicate again, is about your only choice.

A brave new world and all that.

Collecting bio-data like voiceprints is a whole new level of risk to the individual.

Better not deliver to anyone with a ring doorbell camera then as they use cloud storage so your image and voice are being sent without your permission  ???

Global Moderator Comment Please do not quote immediately prior post(s).

Is it bad that I knock the door instead of using their doorbell, because I absolutely can't stand the jingle? Lol

(I totally know that I'm being recorded regardless...!)

It seems my concerns are shared by at least one person responsible for such systems
