Hello
Has any one heard of any reason line managers have been frozen in the company.
No movements ,role changes, appointments.

Is any one aware of a pilot / trial currently underway with line manager / manager structure

Many thanks

Yes I heard this is well a newly signed off lead cannot go anywhere was asked to either stay doing what he's doing or return as a line manager.

They maybe looking at removing some roles.

No line manager trials at present.
I’ve not heard anything about a management movement freeze, however the company did confirm at the start of the year when the counters/stock control leak happened that once that had been completed they would look at the amount of managers in the affected stores to see if they were still needed.
Eg, store has a counters manager, but counters have either closed or gone to part time opening. It wouldn’t need that manager anymore.

Week 22 is the date being thrown around for the line manager structure changes. Lots of rumours and theories, but this one seems really under wraps. But not long to go now. (fingers crossed!)

No doubt being kept to as few people as possible given the farce around the counter changes ending up all over the media before anyone was informed.

I returned to work after lifestyle break,
As my update told that there would be no sign offs ( appointments ), or further management moves as they had been frozen.
As usual like getting blood from a stone to find out.

I hope it’s not the Lidl structure rumour , store manager , deputy and a few floor / shift managers.

The lidl/aldi structure should of been DL's first move to sort out the wasted money in salaries.
I suppose he used managers to do the dirty work of getting rid of team leaders, nights and most full time contracts. It was only a matter of time before management numbers would be culled.

Our night Team managers do nothing. They are nowhere to be found all shift. Some of the most costly managers too with all the premiums. A satellite SM, a deputy, a few shift leaders and ga is all you need.  Can’t wait to see this  ;D

If there are management cuts while it will be bad for the people involved, I for one can not wait to throw back all the b's that was said to us during the last restructure.

Tesco needs to get rid of senior management, it should be front line managers, store manager and a deputy store manager with a floating HR team across a few stores.

I have never seen a company with so many managers who are not needed, and don't even get me started on the meetings, after meetings, after meetings, a store handover sheet filled in between shifts and a quick 5 minute catch up is all that's needed with maybe a weekly meeting on larger issues.

M360 got sacked  :D ;)
So most of us agree that most managers are pretty useless, overpaid chimps?
Come on Dave sort out these so called managers and they'll be forced to find a proper job where pay isn't great and they'll go home tired afters a days graft and their facebook feed will be empty as they haven't had the chance to scroll through it all day.

My store manager agrees that there are far too many managers in our store with not much to do other than manage a team of 2 or 3 ga's. Once upon a time the teams were much bigger but since all the cuts, lots of managers are being paid lots of money to manage 2 people.

With the NLW rising at 4-5% p.a and little scope to raise prices or make further cuts to premiums, I'd be seriously concerned if were a manager these days.

I agree.
We have similar situation. Managers who are not GAs nor managers. Just take the money for nothing.

What sort of store  or department has 1 manager with 2 or 3 ga's?

Produce or PhoneShop.
Now if the company wants to get rid of managers then those two departments can either be easily combined with others or have satellite ones covering multiple stores.

The night TMs have to be scrapped they can rarely be found on the shop floor and when they do there basic office admin tasks they are constantly screwing up eg Not putting holidays through, holidays on wrong dates, too many/too little holidays. They should cctv record the full store and let the sm watch it he would see a few surprises. All the ones who he thinks are great do a nothing.

Said it all along that there are far too many well paid GA’s, sorry Team Managers, in the shop, huge efficiencies to be had with ‘Shift Managers’ being the new role, to fit alongside the changes proposed to shop floor staff; rather than departments it’s a whatever needs done team. DL has said all along this is a strategy he want to incorporate into stores, look at all the nae sayers who have been booted in his tenure, that have disagreed

All grouped together above I believe will be merged together.

I believe Phone Shop may end up sold off to O2. Beauty World to Boots or close and just be aisles again instead of fancy displays.

That’s how I would propose we cut down. Morris999 surprised you say Produce, its a fair size in my store, in fact my Stock Control team would be smallest theres 4 of us left so I imagine it’ll merge in my store with NFSC.

Produce in my store has 6 CA’s including nights, Fresh had 9 including nights, and we are an average sized superstore.
I know the nearest superstore to us has 4 CA’s on Produce including nights.
Yet the nearest Extra has around 15 on Produce.
Our SC has about 10 CA’s.
It all depends on store takings, and size of contracts CA’s are on.
Yet our fresh and produce could easily be combined manager wise.
Both our fresh and produce managers both admit they don’t have much to do and are bored most days.
