Store transfer denied.
« on: 21-03-19, 04:52PM »
Hi there. I recently applied to transfer from Aberdeen to Burnage, Manchester as a customer delivery assistant. I have been working at Tesco for almost 12 years and have been a driver for 7 years however my transfer straight out got denied through email. Do i need to override this by getting my manager to contact the Burnage store to speak to the Dot Com manager? Anyone got any experience with transferring? I just find it pretty insulting that my application was denied despite being a very experienced driver which would save them the hassle of employing and training a new driver.

Could just be that there is a freeze on recruitment at the store in Manchester if they are going through structure change with counters, stock control etc.
Any vacancies are being offered to affected staff first

My manager did mention this, so could it have been a case of my application being automatically rejected online? Would this mean that they would probably still take staff from a different department and train them as a driver before they would take an already trained driver from another store?

There is a general freeze on all vacancies in stores at the moment prior to the heatmap and consideration process but this shouldn't apply to dot-com drivers.

Did you make sure you ticked the place that said you were an internal candidate?

On the first page of the application it asked if i was currently employed by Tesco to which i ticked yes which then have the option to type in my manager's details, I'm assuming that's the one you mean?

Yeah, you need to tick that and enter your managers email as well otherwise it treats you as an external application.

Sure, yeah I did that. My manager was being next to useless basically saying she didn't know what to do and offering no solution other than telling me to phone the store myself and speak to the manager, which I tried but was obviously told that it was to be dealt with by my manager.  Is my manager obliged to help me organise a transfer?

Actually students in our store get no help , they end up phoning stores themselves or just doing without hrs during term time and picking up shifts when home

Transfers are up to us to do, managers only need to offer support.
Dot.com drivers were exempt from the recruitment freeze but can only assume that store does not have any issues. Best thing to do is load up CV and profile to the online recruitment site. You then put in your preferences for where you are looking for jobs. When a job comes up you will get an email and all you then need to do is apply.

Yet to have explained the reason in the first place would have been beyond the realms of expectation from them  ???
