Warehouse clerical redundancy

Clerical redundancies.
With regards to the announcement last week that there will be new systems being implemented and there will be clerical redundancies across all DC’s,
does anyone know the criteria Tesco use?
and what numbers will be needed to run the offices?

Is this because of the new paperless deliveries that use a tablet rather than an RDR?

It was breifed out to all affected colleagues on Tuesday last week.

The only thing clerks have been told in our depot is that there is a restructure coming, no dates, no numbers of jobs and no answers to any questions.

As an ex stand-in clerk you are going to need as least two people to be in the office at any given time to support the operation, liaise with goods in central and help with any issues on the shop floor. if Tesco decides to run with just one per shift then that's operational suicide.

The problem is that most of what we are doing is operational suicide - but that doesn’t matter if it saves a few pence.

Its to do with the automated gates, this was talked about a lot when Transporeon first came in.

Its going to get very messy on the roads surrounding the depots affected

I've spoke with a couple of driver's regarding this system as it was piloted at Southampton before being rolled out across the network. They say it works brilliantly without any flaws.

But my main concern is without the clerks inserting their keys into the Traka cabinet how can we be 100% sure that we have the drivers keys. Then again if they do drive off the bay on a red light and hurt someone it will be entirely their fault & save the business money on lawsuits.

It seems there are two new systems coming out.

1. The new automated gate and the drivers delivering at Goods In will scan a barcode and will get a bay automatically and not need to speak to a clerk on the intercom.

2. For grocery DC's the clerks do all the Pi and stock counting etc, but it looks like the forklift drivers will be counting stock they "add" on to a pallet.

I work up at Livingston DC which is a multi chamber depot, Fresh, Grocery and Trunk, we have around 40 clerks over the 3 shifts and rumors are they will be only needing 5-6 clerks per shift.

Heard Antrim & Belfast DC aren’t being touched at present! Wonder what’s in store for these Depots ? Wonder if there will be more managers getting the chop or are they just being left in the offices, hiding and getting paid for scratching themselves, while those who do the work face losing their job!  >:D

Doesn't surprise me about managers hiding in the depots KingKong2015, we've had two managers on shift today and they both just hid in the office.  No presence on the floor whatsoever, every man for himself.
