Bereavement in Distribution
« on: 09-02-19, 08:42PM »
Hi all,

I have worked in Livingston Depot for a number of years.

My gran died last month and i was off for 5 days however my payslip shows I am down by 4 shifts.

I am certain that you get up to 5 days for a grandparent

Can anyone advise me on what I should do next?

Speak to your line manager ASAP and they can correct your pay.

Your line manager should have discussed this with you at the time of your call.
The general rule is 5 days pro Rata which is 1 week pay if you are FT or however many days you work equivalent to a week

I had 8 days off in November as well for my Father in Law, 5 of which were paid.

Is the bereavement entitlement per occasion or is it limited to a certain amount per year?

I am erring towards it being a mistake but i dont want to rule anything out.

If you go onto Our Tesco website, and put in bereavement on search bar it’s all on there.
Sometimes it can be to your managers discretion but I believe 1 week is general rule.

Both occasions you have mentioned you could expect 5 days for each occasion.
There is no yearly cap to bereavement leave, furthermore if anyone suffers Multiple bereavements in any given year greater compassion may be required as Multiple bereavement occasions can compound the grief, something I have experienced first hand.

Your occasions would need to be keyed on your WFC, so someone has only keyed one day when you were off for 5, first step is to speak with your crew manager as to why you were only paid one Day bereavement leave when you were off for 5, if not their error, they should then raise a wage query to the wages depart at Daventry asking why the pay has been withheld, if your local management are at fault they should still contact wages to get it put right.
My Opinion is exactly that, Mine.  Based on my view of what I know , see and what I would do.

Bereavement is a working week for the colleague... so for every one day you work, you get a days bereavement entitlement..

The policy is up to a working week. You don’t get a working week for each bereavement you may have. Although I would have thought you would get the 5 days for your Gran.
