I think some people are getting confused.... The 45% is reduction in merchandising activity NOT stock control hours and the 45% is workload, noone knows how that relates to hours until heat map week4

Its natural to assume that with a 45% reduction in workload for merchandising there will likely be a 45% reduction in hours on the department - my SM was keen to make sure my team understood this.

Should be easy to work out something realistic though, surely? If a department is currently dead on their hours for merchandising then a 45% reduction should, if everything is being run right, be a 45% cut in hours.

Smit9,
I’m contracted 8 hours on a Sunday in fresh stock control. With the removal of counts, surely I’ll face redundancy instead of reduced hours! I can’t be given an 4 hour contract surely....

Someone who is on a Sunday only contract is almost certain to be offered an alternative role, e.g. Checkouts or Replenishment. Just IMHO but redundancy is highly unlikely. It's really difficult for stores to hire people on a Sunday and we've got two months of hiring freeze in front of us.

Is there any more news about canteens, we still haven't been informed verbally yet only by letter from our 3rd party caterer?

So what is it redundancy or easily slotted into other departments. Both have been said by the SM. Think they just want as many people to get the fear and leave. I wont be leaving without a cash payout or this mob being held responsible. The SMs should be creating protest but they sit back and carry out Dave's redundancy orders as if they are a "reasonable request".  The top people in stores have no savvy to tell Dave his plans are not always for the better in the long run.

In both my store and one a good friend works at we've both been told all Canteens to close by end of April (26th I think?) and vending machines will be restocked by the cleaners who will also do the dishes etc.

Hi all
We merchies had our meeting last night with sm and were told that no stores know what the outcome will be for the merchandising team until April the 9th.
So how come people on here are saying that they've been told at their meetings that a reduction of 45% on workload is on it's way.
Our sm couldn't answer any questions we put to him.
Just have to wait until April I suppose.

The 45% in reduction in workload was read off the official statement regarding merch. That's only the info they had.

A freeze and no doubt limited overtime/none for all those on low hours. The staff turnover is through the roof. Dave's having a great time.

26th looks to be the date for canteens. Saw a job yesterday in SG1 postcode maybe looking for a cook for 10pm to 2am 5 days temporary until 26 of April.

Was also told April 9th in our store too, SM didn’t know anything else but wanted to be upfront about it, no mention of 45% either

So how likely does everyone think redundancy actually will be for each area?

I know full well they will fight it, but we have some colleagues that are really hoping for a pay out, particularly those nearing retirement.

I know I might sound a bit thick but there seems to be confusion with me and others in my store. Our hot deli is closing and fish and deli are going thurs-sun. I’m contracted 7-2 thurs, fri , sat and sun on deli so will my job be at risk ? I’ve been told all the required deli and fish hours for our store will now be re allocated between all staff . On the other hand we only have one shift 4-8 on a Friday on deli in filled so do all the other hours stay as we are and the only shift that goes to affected staff is the 4-8 Friday deli shift. Very confused as don’t see how my job is effected if the counter and openings I work are not effected.

It is worth talking to your union rep, Harry. My understanding, though, is your job is at risk. Essentially, redundancy criteria will be used to allocate any remaining hours in the department.
