I heard rumours of senior team going 🤔
. Can't see that happening, who will work toilet rolls and cereals.?

Haha!! This is sooo true! Our toilet roll aisle is always packer perfect!

In case of our store it would be great. We could have 3 full time workers in place of one who does nothing between talking over phone with all his friends. Oh and maybe now we could fill toilet roll aisle at least once or twice a week.

There are guidelines.  Eg close in distance and combined sales under something like 90k

Use fairly simple CAT A shops, it tends to be express store managers who have run the bigger and more complex express stores who then move into running a dual site. No idea on how many are around but I know of a few in my local area.

Dougall, express dual site s.m is just a store manager running two shops with an extra shift leader in one or both of them, structure is still the same S.M runs the shops, SL runs duty shifts and S.M reports to area manager as per usual in express, I've seen examples of it running really well and examples of it going badly wrong, needs a good set of shift leaders who can run the duty shifts without the usual level of supervision they would get from a full time S.M but other than that no real difference in the day to day operation.

I can't help but think that when the Xmas trading figures are released it will be the usual fudge of how well we are doing, then a month later more redundancies announced, especially as they can use brexit as an excuse.  The question is which dept do they go for? I know stores now that have no one on the shop floor during AM times, and with no guard it's a shop lifters paradise, so it makes you wonder if stock control and the back-doormen will be next to go?

The future is Oracle where there won't be departments. Tasks wil be allocated hours and staff will be assigned various tasks during their shift (ie tip lorry/fill milk/hr on till/fill clothing). Think express ga exiperence in all stores.

Some changes have been good others bad. Managers should not be department specific. You see some managers standing around with the team and the next shift can't finish all the work left for the next shift coming in. One team  Likewise some managers wont authorise holidays and overtime etc if your own department manager is off.
