I have been hearing stories that the new 18 Mercs have been fitted with a reversing limiter to stop them going back at more than 5mph.  Fine, except that apparently it is stopping the vans reversing up any kind of a slope, for example onto a customer's drive or to turn round in a cul de sac.  Many of them have become stuck and had to be recovered.

Anyone else heard of or had actual experience of these vans having this problem?

I have seen a video of one attemting to reverse up a small slope (not very steep at all), and stopping 1/2 way up through lack of power.
If the info is correct, I would say that they are not fit for purpose, and bordering on dangerous.
There are times when you need to reverse up a slope as going in forwards is not an option.

They are certainly fitted with limiters on reverse, should be good next time we deliver to Caterham.

I drove a 67 Iveco once at another store, they had limiters too, didn't have any issues though. Did catch me off guard though when I first reversed.

We have the 18 Sprinters, yes reverse is limited. Its a right pain in the arse and makes you look incompetent when reversing down narrow roads. The back axle is right at the rear of the van so the turning circle takes you into a different postcode and means there is very little traction. One van got stuck on a slight incline and a 40mm high kerb...

Have since heard that some stores have had all their new Mercs "unmodded" to remove the reversing limiter as it was costing them a fortune in recovery fees.
