We had rumour going for few weeks now that after new year our depo will overtake DHL, so redundancies or new contract who want to stay. And now couple days ago our depot manager said about those big news, so I wander if this could be possibly true...

by the way in Avonmouth DC they advertised 105 full time jobs. 11 people arrived for a inteview:D:D:D some of them already work there on part time contracts and now they want full time:D:D:D:D

I concur...the merger will have ground-shaking consequences for Express/Metro stores and distribution. He has to make one billion pound's worth of savings,and given the cuts already implemented, he's gonna cut these entities to shreds in my opinion.

Alun stewart cares not one jot what Tesco/Booker looks like as long as it makes money.

I think if the Booker deal goes through it will be early 2018. I would not be surprised if the whole of distribution was outsourced if this goes ahead. A few 1000 staff being TUPED over to whatever company they decide on. Do they still use Stobarts or did the contract finish with them? When I left the depot the TRG Agency were taking on a lot more.

Outsource Distribution (reduce number)
Franchise Express/Metro (increase number)
Extra stores to be used as warehousing and bring other retailers in to share the space (Keep number same/reduce)

They could give more work to companies like Gist who supply supermarkets like Marks and Spencer already. In fact why not have self employed HGV drivers like Parcelforce.

Outsource distribution completely?

If that happens then so be it. Where I work Tesco cannot get staff now. Do you think anyone else running it will be any different? Answer it would be worse. Loyal staff Tesco have, will move on and make the situation worse. And the workers will go as the amount of new build warehouses around where I work are paying a lot more. Staff are currently only staying out of loyalty.better the devil you know.

The Booker deal will be a game changer. Dot com will be under great threat. Dot com vans will be used to supply not only Joe public but also pubs. Hotels and restaurants. It makes sense to utilize the fleet of vans.Will these vans stay at stores . They may . They may not.

All electrical desks in stores are closing. Dixon's carphone warehouse will replace them. They're not trialling them now for nothing. Opticians going shortly. The probabilities are endless. Probably the only safe employees will be store staff on shelf filling and checkouts. Am I worried? Most definitely not. There's a whole new world outside Tesco. All the recently made redundant managers and clerks I know have all moved on and are very happy. I would say to everyone. Don't worry. What will be will be.

. i don't know anyone who regrets getting out of tosco for whatever reason. in fact the majority say its the best thing that could have happened to them

With the roll out of self service and even till less stores I wouldn't bank on cashier jobs being safe and long term I'm sure robots could fill the store......

I doubt very much there will be a cull in distribution as every depot in the country is screaming out for drivers. If redundancy was offered all the old school drivers would be gone.
