DSS responsibility?
« on: 07-01-17, 07:36AM »
Since the restructure of hardlines, with whom does the DSS paperwork now lie?? Have no knowledge of this, so thought my learned friends on this site could enlighten me to reply to my colleagues enquiry ??? ???

Forgive my ignorance, but is it the responsibility of the whole team on GM stock control, or is it designated to one colleague who has time allocation for the task?? i.e. DSS clerk as seperate task, job description?

It would seem, without divulging confidences, that it used to be tasked to one person with time allocation, pre grocery - hardline split?? Now expected to be done still by one person without time allocation, or responsibility by other team members of GM team??

There's no such thing as a DSS clerk in Tesco stores. According to the latest ideal schedules DSS is included in the daily tasks of GM stock control and there is time allocated for it in the heatmap.

From what my boss told me there's actually too much time on the heatmap for it, which just shows yet again the idiocity of this pointless system. If DSS is being done daily like it should be, then you're keeping on top of it and it doesn't take long to do.

In an ideal world every member of GM stock control should be fully competent in all aspects of their job role, should be a team player and be willing to do a different task from time to time instead of doing the same thing every day because they think it belongs to them. Of course it doesn't really work like that, sometimes due to inexperienced staff, useless managers who know less than the GA's or managers who don't train their staff competently.

In my store I do the DSS unless it's my day off or I'm on holiday. Another colleague is trained to do it but the third colleague isn't, has no desire to learn it and our boss hasn't provided any sufficient training. So 95% of the time it's left to me. I don't mind that though as I like doing it.

As with most things in Tesco what's written down in the rule book is often disregarded and each store has their own way of doing things.

In express stores it falls to the one stock assistant and in their absence the shift runner

Thanks that clarifies things for my colleague. They will be taking the matter up with their manager in regard of time allowance and insisting other members take responsibility for it, during days off and holidays!

Thats assuming you can get backdoor to fill it out properly or actually find the paperwork and file it properly for you without losing in among delivery notes.

I think you'll find that DSS sits on the heat map with each trading areas stock control team. Ie grocery DSS sits with grocery SC, Fresh with fresh etc

It definitely does not either in my store. I get 0 hours on food stock control heat map for DSS.

I thought the plan was eventually to put all deliveries on the pda and to do away with the paperwork side of dss completely?

Yes but that plan seems to have ground to a halt. If pharmacy deliveries and cards could go on pda DSS would be minimal.
