New Mercedes vans with microlise trackers.
« on: 10-05-19, 06:47PM »
I would be interested to hear of any stories/incidents around the accuracy (or not) of the newer trackers.
There appear to be potential problems with the accuracy of the location data &/or speed.

We had the new vans last September and within days numerous drivers were issued with warnings for speeding.

It appears that they could be rather inaccurate.
Has the problem continued since then as well?

If the trackers use the same data as the satnavs they can be over half a mile out on changes of speed limits. This has been pointed out countless times to our lead manager but she still keeps peddling out the lets talk rubbish.
And why keep making our job harder by using Mercs with long wheel bases that means some places become inaccessible? Ivecos may not be perfect but it better than having to use a sack barrow down a muddy lane.

Cheers helpme & driverdave.
I am still trying to find out exactly what unit is fitted along with the error factor it has.
The more ammo I can gather, the better to get the problem corrected.

We still get more drivers than with the previous vans allegedly speeding but it has decreased from when the new vans were introduced.  We were assured the trackers had been fully checked for accuracy on speed and location. I always try to use the limiter and cruise control as much as possible.

The trackers are shite and the data can be manipulated.

When I was at winnall, the drivers all went from about an average of a D to B.

No one was below a C anymore...no one changed driving behaviour.

How is the camera that faces the driver? Anyone been caught doing something they shouldn't be?

What camera facing drivers. We have the new mercs & they dont have these in. Unless they are covert?

We're still on Iveco fleet but the rumours going round are that they all have a camera facing the driver. There would have been a lot of drivers that would have had to change their ways in my store if that were the case!

In distribution vehicles, the camera is built into the microlise tablet but not active. If a driver had an accident and the police were involved it would be interesting if information from microlise could be used in evidence. My guess would be no.( Not calibrated) And if not how could the same evidence be used in a disciplinary meeting. Microlise was not brought in to monitor performance. Its therefore being misused and should be challenged.

Everything is to monitor drivers.

I once asked for cctv to be pulled for an incident. Not allowed, against company policy.

Apparently company policy to pull cctv from cabs and store for condensing.
