Title: % of time on your 'own' dept?
Post by: Nomad on 07-05-18, 01:51PM
If less 50% does it make you feel like a dogs-body?

You don't have a set department in distribution. You work wherever they decide, as long as you're trained on it.

When the store scheduler kicks in no one has a dept anymore.

Would that be the store scheduler that was due to kick in April 2017 ?
Wonder where the nice new Ipads are that every store was issued with and how many will have to be replaced if it ever does happen 😂

It will be in every shop before Christmas, including express, who already have no department staff, you could be on till one day, filling fresh the next etc etc.

Why are they putting it in Express ?  Unless we are all going to get to do stock and cash  ???

Why should it make anyone feel like a Dogs body ? after all its a job and its the way things have been moving towards for some time , How long has it been since everyone has been told to go on till ? Or for say someone on The fruit and veg section told to give a hand on the back door from what I have seen everyone has been puled this way or that for a long time and we do have some that work in more than one department already , This will just mean that when we start we will be told which department needs us , That's the way Aldi/lidl work , as do we In Express

In answer to the OP, regardless of the heat-map the department that I am on requires more than 100% of the time allocated much of the time. If I went elsewhere it would collapse and the store would lose money and customers because of it (I speak from personal experience).

Will this scheduler be dependent on heat-map data in order to make its calculations?

If so I see chaos ahead.

In those stores that it has already been used in has it been accurate?

I have no idea why to be honest with you, nobody will be doing much stock control in express soon, counts are going for good. Stock ca will just be doing lows and overs every day, gap scan to be done at store manger specified time and s.m to do so in person when in work, and yes we've all had the s.m in express to do gap scan in person before. Never happens does it.

OK so we should expect more hours cut since stock ca will be asked to spend more time on tills or filling  8-) wonder when they will get rid off stock all together,  as to sm doing gaps  ??? :D

No plans for a cut to stock c.a. hours, in any case the company wants to stop having someone being the old style "stockie" who just comes and does counts and plans etc etc, but wants all the team doing lows and overs and the stock ca just being a regular c.a., and cash admin will be going the same soon. Then Tesco will spin it all out as putting two extra staff into customer facing roles or some rubbish along such lines. The bigger worry for express should be the shift leaders as someone at head office has decided the s.m should spend an hour on gap scan (yes we all know it will be a shift runner or a c.a doing it in realism) however how long before someone comes up and says the s.m is doing the routine for an hour, so the shift leader is just a c..a at that time bye bye to an hours skill payment, and then your on a slippery slope.

It's not so much feeling like a dogsbody in the fact of helping out, much like a big corner shop in that respect, but.......

The same depts are called on to help out with....all hands..rumble...checkouts...dot com...if your shopfloor staff then your fair game.

Now if the heat map says that your in the RHRP for your dept, and your spending ANY  time working in other depts, then it's just a farce. Then you get some naive newbies who have spent time away from their dept, rushing to finish their own routines etc.. as they have their manager breathing down their necks to complete their tasks..with a "I don't want to hear excuses"  because they know if certain routines aren't done, then it will show a red :-X

So if you feel like a dogsbody, just go and help out when asked, make a note, and then just carry on with your routines in the time remaining, unless it shows up that your not being given enough time to complete your tasks, then their none the wiser ???

Just a thought...if we're all to become ga's on any dept, what about the pre 2005 employees that don't do checkouts?? Is a checkout operator going to jump off their till at quiet times and do some stock control routines?? Are dot.com going to be included in this, especially when they have quiet days, and just mooch about for the rest of their shift?

When the store scheduler kicks in no one has a dept anymore.

We are using whole store schedular, group trial. You do have your own dept. All the tablet does is show who is trained in an area should cover be needed for sick. It is to aid duty manager to cover PFS for example as it shows who is in and who is trained. It is as good as the info that has been put on the system. Lots of work but once you have your few wks ahead it is just maintaining. I gather it will replace paper schedules in time. We are not ready for this yet but it's not far off. I think it will move a huge chunk forward when new wages system comes in.

You can only be asked to multiskill on a department you've been trained on, and so the situation hasn't changed for those who can opt not to be trained on checkouts.

Oh i dunno some people seem to think they have their own set jobs and if they're not on them straight to the shifty they go. People who don't wanna pick and just sit on a card all day doing sweet FA.

:D Don't you see again they are trying to find ways to minimise the mess they have been always creating ? We are nothing, we are pieces which they use to play their game and to cover their lack of  intelligence or will to go deep and to fix a  " MESS ".

How does the whole store scheduler work for those on the trial then? Aparently it's going to be used to have flexis doing overtime on any department, with any hours that are on their avaiability. Managers don't seem to understand how it's all going to work either in my store.

If long as your signed off as trained on a dept you can book online overtime available.

The schedule will tell managers who is in Store v tasks needing completing. Think the aim is to go like Aldi/Lidl where in  a shift you can unload a lorry/work frozen/man a till/record waste. I doubt departments will exist within a few years

Yes everwhere will be like a bomb site. I can hear it now “I have the full store to worry about” generally the people saying It do not do a hands turn all shift. They are all just full of c**p.

Does anyone know if this effects Stock Control? Will I be scheduled for OT on other depts even if I don't really want the OT? Normally it's just managers asking if you want to do OT on their dept etc but will it now be automatic?
Title: Re: % of time on your 'own' dept?

My concern on this is that a computer will count everyone able to do the work to the same level. Someone on checkouts who is trained but rarely does dairy fill will take alot longer to work the stock than a full time dairy person. They will spend half the shift looking for where it goes on the shelf.

Some how I would not think this will effect Stock control since you would have your set jobs for the day ,

and also I think this is more to do with sending someone to work in a area of the store in which more staff are needed due to holidays or sick
