Title: Refused Holiday and Unpaid leave for 2019
Post by: Night owl 20 on 24-04-18, 08:39PM
I need some advice. I put holidays in for August and October 2019 and got refused these as someone else has been given it in the store.  I've also been told that all departments come under one roof for night workers.

I've also booked all my bank holidays for next year and also had these refused.  I don't work Sundays but know bank holiday is the night before. I need to know when I can take my bank holiday entitlement as I've been there since June 2005.  Also if I've had holiday refused can I take this holiday as unpaid leave 🤔?

Since you say that they refused due to others having booked the dates you wanted , What do you think they will say if you ask for the same dates as Unpaid ?

You could take it unpaid if someone will do your shift. Much easier to go sick.

Their saying there are people off across the store not on my department,  and there are Flexi workers on my department which they could Flex up to cover, I can’t see 2019 being fully booked yet either.

If you've been at Tesco since 2005 wouldnt bank holidays be part of your holidays unlike a flex contract?

You've been there since 2005 and still have to have it explained to you that if holiday dates are already booked by someone else then you need to find alternative dates?

Seems common sense to me.

Its got to be really unlucky that october 2019 has all been booked on the dates you want off or the manager is talking s***, or didnt read the dates properly at thought you meant 2018.

I have to admit I also thought October 2019 fully booked to be a little strange  :o

Wow your store can take bookings for 2019 holidays? Mine couldn't take 2018 holiday bookings in Nov 2017 because they didn't have a holiday diary. As for your bank holidays do you work a Monday? Just book the Monday off I work nights and take my bank holiday on the day of the bank holiday which is Monday I'm certainly not working a bank holiday for flat money.

I'm not surprised at all, If OP worked in my store then alot of 2019 is fully booked already. Most staff handed in holiday forms April 1st as they know book fills fast.

I have seen some Express stores book way in advance , Most of those that book or hand in a Booking form do so due to wanting to have the dates to book up holiday trips, then also school holidays, then Things like weddings and anniversary's   I have seen someone in mainstore that has booked next year march last 2 weeks and 2 weeks in april new year , ,
Then also it seems that they are saying that the dates you have asked for are booked , which is not the same as saying the whole year has been booked , which is possible ,
As to flexi workers , could it not be possible that Store has them in reserve in case someone phones sick in your department or another one ? or to be used to cover holidays in other departments , my understanding is that those on flexi are a fall back in case they run short of staff , and not used to cover Holidays only ,

In my store there’s a queue of people on 1st April booking the following years holiday. It’s just crazy! The cashiers were getting themselves in a real frenzy as the 1st this year was Easter Sunday. That said by the end of Easter Monday the checkout manager had 37 2019 holiday requests!
