Say you have 5 shift leaders (including sm)plus cash and stock.  Thats around 40 weeks holidays a year.  So I guess it could be done.

However, its only fair that you get 2 weeks summer holidays between say june and august. There's 7 of you trying to get 14 weeks of holidays into 12 available weeks.  There should be a bit of doubling up over the summer.

That said, if you're just putting in 4 weeks holiday now, you've left it late.

127001. By now you should have had your holiday review meeting, where you and your SM agree your holidays, with the diary open in front of them. If you’ve not had that, demand it as otherwise your holidays will be allocated. Do not let any more of the year go by without booking your FULL entitlement. Easier to swap out of dates than it is to book more dates in the more through the year we go. That said, the window is now open to book 2019 holidays, if you want to get in early for them

Find out what the holiday targets are for the weeks you want, if they won't be exceeded then there's no grounds for refusing the request

I always end up with loads at year end as the TM knocks people back all year. Place is a shambles. Never mind the holidays you ask for that the clueless TM doesn't put through.

In my experience, most managers work on the basis that if they keep saying no, you'll eventually run out of time and loose them!

In my experience, most managers work on the basis that if they keep saying no, you'll eventually run out of time and loose them!

They call it the FLE entitlement short for fleecing you out your paid holidays.

That wouldn't happen if all holidays were booked by 31 March, as they are meant to be.

At our store on nights,it's hard to get hols. Half the time the manager can't be bothered or is "too busy" . Past 3 yrs I've had some left over.

Carlh - Hand them the holiday request form & they have 7 days to return it - if they don't do it then you are allowed to assume that they are approved (section 4 of the holiday policy) - probably best to get someone to witness the request just in case or get them to sign a photocopy as a receipt.

If they just return it refusing the dates then insist on being given a formal refusal with justification for each date & if they don't comply you can go above their heads or take out a grievance.

Hi could someone help me out, I’m 17 and I’m on a flexi contract, i requested 4 days off in August, only 1 being a core contracted hour, the other three within my availability window, the holiday got declined as there were too many people off and I was told I needed to find someone to cover it, I found cover and the tried to ask for no flexi on the other three days and was told I have to request those too and they may be declined even though I’m not contracted those days, is that right? I’ve never declined any hours before and am working 5 days a week, sometimes 6, A’s far as I’m concerned it doesn’t say anything about not being able to say no to gel I days as long as it’s not too often, especially if I’m giving them three months notice and they haven’t even done the rota yet? Thanks in advance.

@P2018....always remember that you are dealing with incompetent ars*holes when booking your holidays.... also remember the problems and stress you have been caused by said ars*holes the next time they are in need of a favour from you. ;) ;) ;)

If you can book your contract shift off you do not need to pick up shifts within your availability window that week as per flexi agreement. Your availability window only applies if you want to do additional shifts for that week.  Flexi is a 2 way agreement. Not for you to do every other day when it suits them because they can’t  be arsed contracting you for a decent amount of hours.

As usual, managers don't even bother reading their own companies rules and guidelines so here's some info for you.

only your contracted shifts need to be booked off, so if your only contracted to work 15 hours (2 days generally), then you only need to book those 2 off,  your manager is not supposed to ask for holiday leading up to or before your returning shift, it's up to you if you want to work for you to go to your manager and request it, if they force it upon you, you take action, you explain its not how the policy is, the process is you talk to your manager about concerns or problems, if they don't listen you go above them in writing,  you're perfectly able to have any other member of staff or union rep with you when raising any concerns.

Flexi contract means you sign an agreement to be able to be flexible, your manager should be sitting down with you every week (should but generally don't), and filling out a rota with your availability form for that week, you can request working 36.5 hours a week or more, you can also request not to do ANY overtime for that week other than your contracted shifts, it's supposed to be an an equal respect, both are supposed to give lee-way.

"Whilst colleagues will be expected to work additional hours that fall within their Availability Window, flexibility should be a two-way process. This means that colleagues can request not to work additional hours where sufficient notice is given. Colleagues should be able to make such requests even if the hours form part of the normal Availability Window. Such requests should be given proper consideration by the store and reasonable requests should be agreed where possible."

Any additional hours the colleague is required to work should be communicated with 7 days’ notice. If this isn’t possible, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice should be given; however, this should be the exception rather than the norm. Colleagues will be expected to work additional hours when they fall within their agreed Availability Window, providing they have been asked to work these hours within the required notice period. The minimum number of stand-alone additional flexible hours offered per day is 3.

Core hours can be contracted for Sunday but additional hours should not be scheduled for Sundays. Colleagues can volunteer for normal overtime on a Sunday.

Core hours may fall on a bank holiday. Additional hours, however, should not be scheduled for a bank holiday and colleagues should volunteer for normal overtime on a bank holiday. The appropriate premium payments will be paid if hours are worked during the night, or on a Sunday or bank holiday.
