Title: Notice Period
Post by: Dwarfer on 14-08-18, 01:39PM
Hi guys,
Just a quick question, what's my notice period. I've been in Tesco 14 years.  Pretty sure it's only a week but want to make sure.

Many Thanks

I only work sundays. could i potentially hand it in on a saturday, work the following day and then leave?

OR even work, hand it in, and not come in the following sunday 7 days later?

You could just put "With immediate effect"
Several youngsters  have in my store this last month, offer of a better job or university place.
Not much T**** can do about it.

I didn't work my notice. I handed it in, then went to the personnel manager a couple of hours later and said I really didn't want to be there any more, so she said it was fine to finish there and then. It depends how dispensable you are at any given moment. If half of your department is off on holiday that week then they probably won't let you go early, but in normal circumstances they might be happy to save the few hundred quid.

Well it's done, notice given. Got the generic speech from the manager that the store will be ok.

It's been 14 years, and the main reason I'm going is the hours. Starting my shift at 3am is a nightmare.  I can actually see why they do it and where the need is coming from but at some point the company must start to care for their staff (lol sorry, don't know what got into me there).

To the people still in Tesco, I wish you the best.

I will probably hang around the web site, as it's very helpful and good to get information from.

Well as someone who used to start at 4am i can sympathise with you, I managed to get a more reasonable start time or I would not be working at Tesco any longer.

All the best for your future may the gods of work look favourably on you.

I am due to start my new job next Mon however I am due in at Tesco tomorrow and haven't had chance to give in my notice yet. How do I stand if I only give my notice in tomorrow?

No, price integrity. That's the start time now.  If I was paid the bakers wages I would put up with it.  I'm just paid ga wages.

Can anyone on here point me towards information about pay and share and stuff when leaving, just in case I don't get a leavers interview.  Looking at the rota I'm only going to see my boss once this week.

Thanks

Thanks for the link about the shares, who ever gave me that. Very helpful.

I just wanted to say to anyone thinking about leaving, life is so much better out of there. I no longer hate going to work and the atmosphere in the new place is so different I spent the first couple of days in shell shock.

It makes a nice change to work for people that care about you and not what you can do for them.

Thanks for all the support I've had here. It's helped me fight my corner when I had to.

Dwarfed, can you give us an age bracket that you are in .sometimes it's easier to make the move if you're younger , don't have have kids , a mortgage , elderly parents to care for.
I don't hate my job but there are aspects of the way the company now treat their staff that make me want to leave but it's not always that simple for everyone !

Hi there, worked in an express for just under a year now, first proper job.
I go away to uni in September, and need to hand my notice in- I'm aware I have to give a week's notice, but what sort of form should this take? Do I just speak to store manager, write a letter, or what?

Thanks in Advance.

You just need to hand in a letter but you can see if they can move you to a store local to the uni if you still want to work in Tesco

Speak to your manager about a transfer or even if you dont want to work near uni we have some students that just come back at xmas/easter/summer  .

Are you 100% on leaving, ask and see if you can come back and do seasonal work? A lot of students in our store do that and it's a good way to earn a little money to spend when you go back
